Here is my part picker list it is just outside my strict budget of$850 w/ operating system . Im looking to use the desktop for gaming/ music recording and editing . Ideally would perfer a intel based computer . I'm not against cheaping out on most things as long as the motherboard is easily upgradable . Thank you for the help!

Solution
No need going with a older Haswell Intel socket. For around $850 you can get a Skylake Xeon which is similar to a i7 (4cores/8threads) however its much cheaper which should be better for any editing software however I'm not too sure how demanding music editing software is.

*EDIT for Kabylake.*

Solution
Hmm, not much of a price difference between Skylake/Kabylake and your Haswell build.

Anything you could do with less of. Power supply is a little large. Do you need the hard drive immediately, or would a larger SSD get you by until you can add the HDD later?

There are certainly cheaper cases, though that is a nice choice.

How does the skylark end Xeon do for gaming ? And is your Xeon build compared to my i5 build as far as overall gaming performance and general quickness as a desktop for multitasking?

Yeah I was mainly looking for future upgrade compatibility For more ram, second gpu etc.

Am I loosing any performance with this build compared to mine?

It has a faster CPU and memory. Its more expandable and supports the newest M.2, USB, plus other kabylake advantages.

He asked for upgrade ability, and he was already considering a Z class board with a locked processor for roughly the same amount.

We might see one more processor line with LGA1151 so it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to pick up a Z170 that might not be able to handle it. Not that the i5 would need replacing any time soon.
