Help me pick the right AMD CPU.

Hi all. I am just about ready to pull the trigger on a new PC. I have decided on a 7900Gt, Raptor drive (non raid for now), 2Gb Corsair XMS mem, an ASUS board - probably one of the A8N flavors - not sure yet, I'm just partial to Asus. I just can't decide on the 3700 San Diego CPU or something like the 4400 X2. Currently, the main objective is playing BF2. What are the 4400 X2's advantages? Is it worth the extra $200? I don't really want to go over $400 - $450 for the CPU. Thanks in advance.

I recommend getting the AMD Athlon 64 3800+ X2, if you wish to have a little more speed, grab the 4200+ X2, the 4400+ X2 isn't worth the price hike over the 4200+ X2.

Im playing BF2 on a 3000+ with a 6600 card.

A lot of people have spoken highly of the Opty 165. It's about $30.00 more than the 3800 X2 and I've heard it's a decent overclocker. However, I've also heard some people say they're picky about which mobos to use with them. I'm not sure which ones, but I'm sure others can point them out for you here.

I'm suprised your not getting spammed with omg dude, like wait another 3 or 4 months and you could get a new Conroe or AM2 and it would like smoke those mothers your getting now by like 40% like what yo.

But otherwise on topic, I agree with triple M's suggestion. I also can agree with Anoobis, the opty 165, then OC it, but you mentioned nothing about OC'ing in first post. So you might be better off sticking it out with a stock high clocked processor if you don't want to OC.
