My experience with this situation is that if it fires once and turns itself off, the mobo is spent. could be a dead short on the board itself or something else. If you have another box try testing some of the obvious pieces on that. Otherwise I recommend you RMA the board. I would like to be wrong here. I have been down this road. It happends. Best of luck

ok, I really appreciate you help, going offline now so I can dismantle this beast & try some more tests

Thanks again, be back asap

ok, a few test and grazed knuckles, managed to wire my 300w psu to IV with 2600XT, same red led on DRAM. Managed to wire my TX850 to this mobo etc.., booted just fine

so, I think we can say the PSU is ok, back to either the mobo or is the RAM still a possible fault or should my type still be ok & unlikely that both sticks are faulty eh?

Statistically, have (2) bad sticks is <1% (very rare). Then it comes down to CPU vs MOBO, and statistically it's 80% MOBO and 20% CPU. The only way to know 100% is to replace the CPU or get a really cheap or borrow a supported CPU. The AMD Sempron 145 is $40 USD.

IMO - pull the CPU and look carefully for bent/damaged CPU/Socket pins. Otherwise RMA the MOBO.

BTW - Disconnect the HDD/SSD/ODD(DVD) and everything attached including the Keyboard/mouse...I've seen a bad mouse cause a Post Failure.

ok, thanks for all your help, gonna inspect & kick back with a beer, tomorrow brings new ram lol if it fails, its going back

Thanks again, excellent people here

At this point, I am willing to bet the MOBO is bad. I have never had a bad ground on a mother board if it is anchored correctly with the stands and screws given to you in the case, you are set. In fact back before they build PSUs with more safety features, the guy used to work for used make me black tape the holes on the board. Theoretically the board should only being making contact with the case at the IO shield, but I stopped doing that a couple of years back and haven't lost a board yet, not doing it so, no loss their. Order another board, and move on to the nights of fragging. Good luck man.

Then MOBO or CPU and review what I said above.

Regarding the Building and 'grounding' concerns. If your PSU is indeed plugged-in to a 3-wire with a grounded receptacle then in fact the grounding is fine.

See this 'How to Build' series from Newegg, scrub through to ~14 minutes:

Thanks, I actually saw that vid b4, pretty good. Yes, my cable does have earth in it as Im in the UK, grounding not a prob but I did discharge myself just n case, Im really hoping its the ram, dont want to be sending it all back, really gutted about it in truth, almost devestaed, still, these things happen eh

I have a Crosshair IV (wife's rig) and V (mine). I made the mistake of not connecting the 8-pin power after the 24-pin on the V. Booted up just fine. You say you did that however. Can you take pics of the mobo with all the pretty naughty lights so we can troubleshoot it easier?

I have not seen where you listed the beep codes you are getting, if you have sorry I missed it somewhere, but trouble shooting a no-start board starts out with the beep codes first thing. If you are getting no beep codes, the board is very likely bad. It happens. In 17+ years of building my own and for friends on occasion, I have seen a dozen boards bad right out of the box.

yup, thats bad

No, no beeps at all, not a single sound

Pics, erm, just dismantled, I will re-assemble & video it 😉

There's a button on the board labelled "MemOk!" It's designed to test the system durring POST and see if the Memory installed is compatible and working.

Try that to see if you're having memory issues.

hi not sure will help but just came across ur board on another forum and the guy tightened cpu heatsink to tight he didnt think so but all he had to to to get it to work was lossen up the heatsink on cpu so might wanna check that he put together new system and no beeps either but might be memory just in case it isnt try it

Honestly believe that 100% everything is fitted correctly, HSF sits & clmps nice & tight, all other stuff, ram, gpu cpu power etc all click or slot in just nice. Ive given up for tonight, hopefully tester Ram 2morro & that will either mean me returning my ram or the board
