Hi guys,

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/LyVcxY

This is my first gaming build set up and I was wondering if I could get some help with the graphics card as this is the only thing I am undecided about.

I was looking at the Radeon RX 480 4GB NITRO+ 4G. What do people think, is this a good card or go with a 1060. Any suggestions? Also if I go with the RX480 what brand? Is the Sapphire okay as I could get one for less than £200.

Thanks guys!

Hello!

For 1080p 60fps gaming I would go with the RX 480 8GB sapphire as a cheap option that will also pack a punch and run the latest games :)

But for ultra graphics at 1080p I would go with a 1060.

For 4K graphics and just out of this world graphics and performance I would go with a 1080 :)

Thanks for the advice!

So would you say the 1060 is better? Say if I am playing 1080p 60fps would the RX 480 8GB be the better shout or still the 1060?

Thanks

I've updated teh build with a better PSU(yes, 450 is plenty, and this is a different generation of PSUs. what you had was of poor quality) and teh GPU you should get for 1080p gaming. If you are interested in going 1440p, a GTX 1070 is very much merited instead.

No problem! The RX 480 8GB can handle everything at 1080p 60fps without having to break the bank but if you want a bit more performance and bragging rights then the 1060 is the way to go :)

Don't forget to vote the best answer! It really helps us out a lot :)

Whats your say on the PSU I bought, is it okay? or are there better ones for the same price?

Thanks

The rx 480 really outshines in dx12 and vulkan.1060 and 480 are on equal footing.480 loses in dx11 and OpenGl while the 1060 loses in dx12 and Vulkan. As being futuire proof go with the rx480 or if you plan to keep the keep just for a year or 2 then go with 1060.

I think that the PSU you have bought is good for the price because with corsair, it might be costy sometimes but you definitely get the quality you need because with a PC if you hold back on your PSU, it can make your whole rig go weird, so it's always best to choose a good PSU and in my opinion the PSU you have chosen is a good one :)

okay so now going forward with the graphics card: it does look like the best option is the Radeon RX 480.

Okay so would the 4gb be okay or should i go for the 8gb? Also what brand XFX, MSI, Sapphire? Obviously the price.

Thanks!

I would go with the RX480 8GB, definitely 8GB and personally I would go with Sapphire because it is cheap and I expect just as reliable as the other cards that manufacturers make :)

Go for the 8gb model

£20 in price between MSI and Sapphire

what you think??

Are you willing to part with an extra 20 for the MSI? It looks nicer I think 😀

I think the OC'd MSI card will have a higher boost clock too so I would go with that for sure :)

(It'll perform slightly better) :)

Sapphire. The extra 20 is not justified for the MSI.

After doing some digging i'd say sapphire too, MSI has "High noise levels" apparently....

So yeah sapphire 😀

Thank you for the help, MSI it is!

This is my first ever build and about 4 days ago I knew nothing on the topic, this website and a lot of research and youtube videos have helped and people like you so thanks! what do you think?

Is there anything else I need?

Dude, i said Sapphire, not MSI :))
