custom loop cooling cpu and gpu
asus rog strix 2080ti
samsung 970 pro 512gb.
what mobo settings to get best from the graphics and samsung pro, can only get it to read x8 or raid , no sign of x16, do i need to leave the m.2 slot near pcie lane 1 clear to achieve any better performance ?
i can oc cpu stable all cores to 4.2, next is the gpu, in GPU tweek 2 i can only manage 1795 clock boost with 100 memory boost before freezing, any tips help or where im going wrong will help tremendously, thanks in advance.

1)Page 1-8 of the mobo manual: https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM4/ROG_CROSSHAIR_VIII_HERO/E15379_ROG_CROSSHAIR_VIII_HERO_UM_WEB.pdf
If you didn't change anything, then there's nothing to change. A 2080Ti can't over-saturate PCIE 4.0 at x8 mode anyways. It does over-saturate PCIE 3.0 at x8 mode though. Nothing would change from adjusting to x16 mode.

2)Same deal with the M.2.: You shouldn't have needed to change anything if it's the only storage device at the moment. Just install the device + it's firmware/driver, and done.

3)Leave the cpu core clock alone - don't set a static frequency like that, as it's actually worse.
What worked with Intel - just increasing turbo frequency, does not yield the same benefits with Ryzen 3000. Instead, look into FCLK and memory overclocking: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-memory-tweaking-overclocking-guide/

how do i get to run PCIE 4 ? or is it automatic ?
i have a samsung 970 pro in the top m.2 socket and a 970 evo in the lower m.2 socket, both not performing anywhere near good enough, read 2019, write 1866 for the pro.
read 2009, write 1189 for the evo. was wondering if the slot made a differance ?
im very scared to mess with ram as it has to many variables to play with, if i get 1 wrong all goes kaput

Go into bios(Advanced Mode) > Advanced menu/tab > Onboard Devices Configuration.
PCIEX16/X8_1 Mode: Set it to Gen4
M.2_1 Link Mode: Set to Gen4
M.2_2 Link Mode : Again, Gen4
All of the above is assuming bios isn't already running those devices at Gen4 speeds.

Is the memory actually running at 3200mhz?

Memory is at 3200. Set in BIOS and checked with hwinfo. It's set by the dcop profile. But further down the list of options is a to alter frequency which I have done to 3400

settings confirmed, slight increase in speed from drives but still slow,
still cant get a clock speed from cpu above 4.2

Samsung 970 pro is a PCIe Gen 3.0 x4, NVMe 1.3 so there is no need to set Gen 4 in BIOS, just let it auto detect gen 3 x4. source How high are the temperatures? I remember reading that high temperatures effect transfer speeds.

Both the 970 evo and evo plus are PCIe Gen 3.0 x4. source

Reviews state that the drives throttle their speeds.
1:35 After 44GB of transfer the write speeds throttle to half what they were. 1:26 read and write speeds drop for the 10GB transfer test.
4:04 drops to 500MB/s.

The drives will throttle when they get too hot. I have a solid block cooler on my 970 EVO and it performs very well, and I expect it will, until the cache burns out, at which point it becomes another SSD. Make sure to actually install the drivers for it or it'll be neutered at like half speed.
