My pc looks like this  AMD Duron 1600 mhz , 2x 256 MB DDR 400 mhz Ram , Seagate 160 Gb 7200 rpm 8MB Cache , ECS L7S7A2 motherboard , Leadtek A340TD ( Fx 5200 128 mb ) , dvd-rw LG 4163B , and a 300W ATX , Windows XP PRO SP2 , DirectX 9.0c ( latest build ) . Now ... my problem is this .... when i try to start my pc the HDD led is on always and the system freezes without displaying anything on the monitor ... after 2 to 3 resets he goes to welcome screen and even there the problem didn't ended .... there another freeze and another reset is needed to enter Win Xp .... in the games the same stuff ...... i spend some time in the game and ... the same freezing . I have to say that i defragmented my hdd till O&O Defrag 8 Pro displayed 0,00 % fragmentation , i have an updated antivirus and firewall , i don't have trojans or any kind of viruses in my pc , and don't have any partition on my hdd .... video drivers are the latest ... PLEASE HELP ME :!: :!:  :?

Older ECS motherboard... sounds like it's time to check the motherboard's capacitors. Have a gander at them and see if any are bulging or burst.

all my computer is old except my monitor ... a Samsung 793DF , the Seagate hdd and the LG dvd rw 😀 maybe it is something on the mobo that is fried or verry dusted ....

clean all fans in the computer and really clean the heatsink. Could be a heat issue.
Do you have the same problem going into safe mode?

hmm .... i cleaned the cooler and heatsink of the processor ... but i didn't clean the two chassis fans .... and the hdd cooler ... they are dusty too ... but i was in a hurry to go somewhere .... i will clean them too and the inside of the chassis too .... and i didn't try enter safe mode ... i will do it soon ... but i installed SpeedFan last version and after i did what i wrote upwards ... in windows with winamp 5.13 and firewall , antivirus , and other usefull software .... it is on 49 and when i enter IE or Opera or other software ... jumps from 49 to 51 - 52 .... and i will try to record the temperature when i play games that are resource hungry ..... see what speed fan records .... thanks for the advice .... it is good 😀 when i finish the testing ... i will post the result here .... hope u guys help me again if i don't solve this stuff

I would check the memory with MemTest too.

If still not solved, change power supply.

hello ... hey btw ... i solved the problem today .... ALL the problem was DUST .... on the pcb of the hdd .... on the hdd cooler .... on the 2 chassis fans ..... processor cooler and heatsink .. on the videocard cooler ..... power suply .... mainboard ... everywhere 😀 ( no wonder why he freezed and restarted everytime ) .... i cleaned all like it was new ... and pushed the power on button and he started from the first strike like he was new 😀 Now speed fan records much much lower tems on the HDD and CPU ..... before cleaning all the dust i checked for the last time if the computer boots from first power on and the coputer did not even booted vith 10 resets 😱 ..... as the days passed it got worst by the dust it was accumulating :) .... thanks you guys for the tips .... good tips for problems like this with Memtest , Power supply and the dust problem like Strum says 😀
