Help please!!!!

I tried to install a Creative Sound Blaster Live 5.1 card on my comp. the other day. I first unistalled all of the drivers for my onboard soundcard and then restarted. When the screen booted up it ran my BIOS and then it showed the screen running Windows XP and then the monitor made the clicking over sound and then the screen went blank. I turned off the monitor and then turned it back on and it said "Is Video Cable COnnected?" I then looked at the back of my computer at my gfx card and the cable was connected. So I restarted it in safe mode and then it showed in my taskbasr that new hardware was found and it was my multi-media controller. When I went to my display props. It shiwed that I nolonger had a gfx card at all and was running my standard vga adapter. If anyone could help me I would be most greatfull.

Don't worry, Windows in Safe mode reverts to the standard VGA, mouse and keyboard drivers. That is to ensure a Video driver problem can be solved. Booting standard windows will restore your gfx drivers

What you saw was probably a windows crash. rebooting a couple of times sometimes helps (does anybody know why? I guess Windows tries to configure PnP devices, fails, reboots, detects that the configuration failed and tries another combination)

My advice: remove the old sound card, and boot Windows before installing the new sound card. Uninstall any software you installed from the old card. Make sure Windows is stable. Then install the new card.

I uninstalled all the drivers and the card and it stil gives me the same prob. I tried looking for the gfx card in the Display section and there are question marks next to everything and will not recognize any thing I do to it

Could you post a list of devices with a problem in the device manager? If possible with the explanation (you'll find them in the properties of the devices). Try running the new hardware wizard manually, it will try to reinstall everything. remember to boot after each reinstalled device.

If all else fails you could enable 'Clear NV Ram' in the BIOS, it will force the system to reconfigure all PnP devices. (it may be called differently in your BIOS)
