Recently pc has started crashing whenever launching any game, even low end. the screen goes a random solid colour like white, red, grey, sometimes like white with a tint of pink/red. no clue why and don’t have access to more parts to narrow it down. specs are gtx 660 i5 4670 16gb ram 500w psu.

any help would be greatly appreciated, moving soon so can’t really afford to be replacing parts unnecessarily.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Make and model of your PSU and it's age? The process of troubleshooting comes about from the process of elimination. You replace parts in a build with donor parts until you come to the conclusion that the issue was because of X part. You should see if your friend(s) or neighbors might have a spare PSU to work with. You could also remove the discrete GPU from the equation, hook the display to the motherboard and see if you get a proper display.

Also, you forgot to mention the make and model of your motherboard.

Thanks for the reply, its a Asrock B85M pro 4 and the psu is probably 6 years old and a generic 500w, not sure of brand. I've got no access to spare parts and can't be buying any more as upgrading soon anyway. I've done a bit of testing since and found pc launches fine and displays correctly, no crashes doing browsing, work, etc. All fine until i launch a game. The screen mostly goes purely white and keyboard and mouse turn off and unresponsive, pc stays on for maybe 2 minutes before turning off. What i found strange is i can watch videos in 4k without issue but slightest load from a game will crash. I don't think it's psu or ram. Temperatures look normal.
