hello friends ,i am new to this forum
this thread is my first one ..

Here is the problem:-

I am a dedicated gamer ,the purpose of my pc is one and only -gaming , i am having some trouble regarding the setup and performance so i am very confused as whether i should stick to my current hardware or should i switch on to another setup
here is the current hardware:

CPU-Amd phenom 2 x4 965
Mobo- Gigabyte 890 fx-ud5
Ram-g skill Ripjaws 2000mhz @ 9-9-9-27
GPU- ATI radeon MSI 5850 twin frozer edition

however i recently purchased a gtx 580 and will install it within 2 days

here is the problem- I am not satisfied with the performance and so i want to switch ,the problem is that while playing some games (not every) after a duration of 1 or 2 hrs the screen on my monitor goes green or red sometimes , plus the cpu does not responds and so i have no other option other then to restart it .This does not happen with all the games but with some games like Resident evil 5 ,Call of duty black ops .plus the overall gaming performance is not soothing as i want.this is why i am going for a new hardware

i have no budget issue as such, i was thinking of going for i7 980x and asus sabertooth along with this gtx 580

guys what would you suggest .plus will there be any difference when i will install gtx 580 in place of this 5850 gpu
as such i have no budget bar but still that does not mean that i would waste money .so if there is some advise that will solve my purpose and will save money at the time also then i would really appreciate it

i also can consider of replacing this 965 be with 1090t or 1100t processor . please suggest and finally the ultimate goal is one and only -gaming

Get rid of that piece of crud CPU cooler. I have a phenom II 955 and the temps would hover around 59 degrees C with the stock cooler at idle with arctic silver compound. The max temp is 62 degrees for these chips. I bought a Gelid Tranquilo cooler and now it stays at 42 degrees C at idle. The color thing happening to you sounds like video card, so go ahead and put that new one in. My 8800gtx recently starting doing that but would go to black screen with no response. Went back with my 8800gt and everythings fine now. That 965 should be more than enough to play anything out there.

1) Install HW Monitor utility or any other temperature monitoring utility and keep it running and start the game, and check periodically. The stock cooler is usually sufficient for non-over clocked gaming.

2) So you are going to throw out the 5850 and install a GTX 580? WOW!

Why did you not buy another 5850 and crossfire with current one?

brother i would have bought another 5850 but the only thing was that i am not satisfied with my current gpu performance so bringing a same one again is actually a tuff decision to make plus i might shift towards a new setup (intel) one so this gtx 580 will solve my purpose well

let the suggestions keep on coming ,and needless to mention how above suggestions helped me
thanks guys ,i owe you one

I would say, ship me your 5850, I will happily keep it and crossfire it with my existing one. Two 5850s will come just as close to the performance you can "see" with GTX580 but it is your money, your choice. :)

yes and get a good power supply like Antec, Corsair.
