Hello everyone this is my first time writing here hope to get the help to decide ...
Now my new pc contains Ryzen 1700 OC to 3.9 a 16 gb of ram 3200 @3200 hz and asus rog strix b350 f gaming MO...
Now im planning to get the LG 34uc79g UW monitor its 2560x1080 144hz is the gtx 1080 ti considered as a overkill for this monitor ?? Should i get it or the gtx 1080 cash is not a problem just want to get the right decision as i will not change the set up for at least 3 years as it cost me almost 2000 euros ( with the monitor and ti card) here in spain hope to get the answer guys

Btw another question if u have to choose between 2 options
1- 3440x1440 60hz and gtx 1080
2- 2560x1080 144hz and the gtx 1080 ti
As i cant affor the 3440x1440 and the gtx 1080 ti together..

Thanks in advance for everyone.

Solution
^ absolutely 100% yes if you can do that.
On straight gaming the difference between a ryzen 1600 & 1700 is roughly between none & insignificant.

At stock the 1600 is actually slightly stronger.
Thnx for the fast reply bro... wanna ask you the second question if u have to choose between 2 options
1- 3440x1440 60hz and gtx 1080
2- 2560x1080 144hz and the gtx 1080 ti

ryzen is not really that great at high refresh rate gaming, it can do it on some titles but generally not a good choice especially at 1080p

get a gtx 1070 with a 2560 x 1440 60hz monitor

or 3440x1440 60hz and gtx 1080

Personally I'd go with the 3440x1440.

Im really more confused so i would take your openion in another scenario.. as i mentioned i only use my pc for gaming but i love ryzen as it gives me super performance in multitasking while gaming .. would you recommend returning the ryzen 7 and get the ryzen 1600 and the 3440x1440 paired witg gtx 1080 ti ??? It will be better for gaming experience and will be the best option or downgrading from ryzen 7 to ryzen 5 is not a good step

The GTX 1080 Ti is overkill for 1080p/144Hz, hence, if you are looking at 3 years without upgrading, you are stuck with a powerful and expensive GPU that can't maximize its full potential for 3 years running it on 1080p. As such, your GTX 1080 Ti would have lost its value right at the moment you paired it with a 1080p and will continue to exponentially decrease its value as you use it for the next 3 years (wherein during this time, more powerful GPUs will be released and prices of the GTX 1080 Ti will have to come down).

That said, it is better to invest on a quality (and appropriate) monitor rather than a GPU that you cannot take full advantage of. Monitors have longer "lifespans" than GPUs, meaning, GPUs get replaced at a much faster rate than monitors do.

Your first option, the 3440x1440 60hz and gtx 1080, has more value and a more logical choice compared to the second option (1080p 144Hz and GTX 1080 Ti). After the next 3 years, you could still keep that same monitor and upgrade only your GPU to better ones available at that point in time to keep up with gaming requirements on a 3440x1440/60Hz display, instead of being stuck with a 1080p/144Hz and a GTX 1080 Ti already "obsolete" (replaced by better GPUs) in 3 years time.

Thnx raisonjohn for the detailed info just have 2 specific question to u that will make me make my decision... i see u mentioned 1080p 144 monitor is overkill f0r the gtx 1080 ti but are u consider 2560x1080 uw monitor is a 1080p monitor ?? As one of my friends having the 2560x1080 75hz monitor and gtx 1080 and can get 85-90 fps in modern games so i thought in the 2560x1080 144hz with gtx 1080 ti ... so is it still 1080p ??

Second please let me know if i change the ryzen 7 with the ryzen 1600 and then i can afford the 3440x1440 monitor with the gtx 1080 ti.. is it will be better ??

Yes, the ultrawide 21:9 2560 x 1080 (at a total of 2.76M pixels) is just a few pixels wider than a regular 16:9 1920 x 1080 (total of 2.07M pixels) - where both monitors are overkill and has low price/performance for a GTX 1080 Ti GPU.

The ultrawide 21:9 3440 x 1440 (at a total of 4.95M pixels) is almost double the size of the ultrawide 2560 x 1080 (even the regular 16:9 2560 x 1440 (total of 3.68M pixels) has almost 1M pixels more than that).

If you have to choose, prioritize a better monitor + a slightly weaker (but appropriate) GPU to save costs as GPU's have shorter "lifespans". If you can get both (if your budget permits), the better. However, it depends on what your requirements for the CPU are. Since you already have the Ryzen 7 (based on your post), just keep it, no point in downgrading it just to get the GTX 1080 Ti.

My cpu useage is only gaming i dont do anything else on pc i choose the ryzen as it has more future proof for the few coming years and its not that much behind intel i7 in some games so its good to have dont know if it will be a huge step back if i got the ryzen 1600 instead of ryzen 1700

Your 2 choices are kind of off kilter mate IMO.

2560x1080 with a gtx 1080
Or 3440x1440 with a 1080ti

They're your sensible options & better fits for each other.

Obviously they're 1 completely different budgets buyvthe 1080ti will be wasted at 2560x1080 & the 1080 isn't quite strong enough for 3440x1440

This is what im talking about is it better to get the ryzen 1600 instead of the 1700 as its just for gaming use and then would be able to get the lg34um88 3440x1440 with the gtx 1080 ti ?????
