So, I built my Gaming PC about 2.5 yrs ago. I am looking to upgrade mainly my monitors and GPU if needed. Here is my current build.

I5 4690k (oc 4.4)
Hyper v 212 cooler
8GB RAM
ASUS Z97 motherboard
NVIDIA GTX 970
CX600M PS
2- Cheap cheap 1080P monitors.

I am definitely wanting to upgrade my Monitors to either 4k or 1440....BUT, I dont have the money right now to buy both monitors and a GTX1080 or 1080 ti. For the monitors I would like to stay at $500 and below with a high refresh rate and gsync if possible?

Anyone have any thoughts tips to help me get headed in the right direction? Sorry, I have been away from gaming for the last 2 yrs so Im a little behind :)

Thanks!

I did have this

and I upgraded to this

I chose EVGA's 1080Ti FTW3 Hybrid. There has been a considerable boost in FPS and that's to be expected. I purchased it for $849. Nvidia's base reference model is $699. With a customizable RGB lighting system, iCX cooling tech., a 120mm AIO liquid cooling system and a custom PCB the EVGA model is considerably more. Finding a 1080 Ti will be difficult with the mining craze. Finding a normally priced(usually $500) 1080 can be just as difficult.

The MSI 1080 Armor was an option for me.

BTW I chose Seasonic's SR650M(650W) 80+ gold PSU. That Corsair you have will be more than good enough.

Thanks for the response!
Ya, I was just looking for the 1080/1080ti and it seems like they are all over $1k? Maybe I can find a used one somewhere...I dont know.
Also, what do you have for monitors? and would you recommend upgrading my GPU before my monitors or vice versa?

Thanks!

I just have a cheap 1080p monitor. I purchased the 1080 Ti for my HTC Vive that I bought with it. Using it outside in a 10' x 20' screen in canopy is simply incredible. If possible I will upgrade to a 100Hz or better monitor with a 1440p resolution.

Monitor should come first. You won't be able to fully realize the GFX card's true power on a low end 1080p monitor. I didn't have the money for a monitor. After the 1080Ti, the canopy, the Vive and other essentials I didn't have anything left.

I agree, buy the monitor now.

The mining craze has DOUBLED the price of graphics cards... I'm personally not paying $1000 for a card that was worth $500 three weeks ago.

I'm hoping all the mining stuff crashes and that hundreds of 'lightly used' graphics cards hit eBay.

Worst time in history to be updating a computer for better gaming... (grumbles)

Ya, I was wondering why cards were so high! and I will definitely wait for them to drop in price.
For the monitors....since I am looking to get the 1080ti (someday).....should I buy 4k 144hz monitors now or go with a 1440p? Since I have the GTX 970 now, can I just run a 4k monitor at 1440p till I get the 1080ti?

Sounds like a good plan.
