What is your goal? It sounds like you already bought that model Altec Lansing speakers. If it sounds good to your ears does it matter where it was made? And if I give you an answer that is different from what the little sticker on the bottom of the speaker says, will you return them? Or are you asking something else entirely?

You way over paid for those speakers. They are worth in the range of about $110 these days. No offense tho =0

Your question is too vague. That's like asking which country has better pizza. Answer: depends, from place to place. If I can find great pizza and crappy pizza in both countries, it would be nonsensical to compare one country's bad pizza to another country's good pizza and claim, therefore, the second country has better pizza.

My PowerBook is made in China. My PowerMac is made in Ireland. All of my PCs have Taiwanese and Chinese components.

The PowerBook is the best made thing (bar my amplifiers - Petaluma, CA baby!) that I own, and it was made in China. It's made better than my PowerMac, which was assembled in Ireland.

You really can't tell just by the country it's made in.

I think that ...
Chinese products and USA produsts are both quality now .
Many companies have established factories in China.
Various products are made by those factories.
On one hand, those products are launched around the world.
On the other hand, those companies assign staffs and engineers, to control products' qualities, so that those products should be guaranteed.

I agree. China can make some excelent products now. And yes they make some crap as well. This is coming from experience. As a Customs Broker on the west coast I hear all sorts of quality problems, as well as discover some of the best and most modern factories around. It is very much like Japan in the early days. Japan was known for creating inferior parts ... and now look at them. China is no different. It all depends on the maker, the technology and the quality control. People make everything everywhere now. I'm sure people will not like me for saying this but I rarely think of things being superior just because they were made in the USA. Our work ethics don't dictate quality ... just higher cost. It's sad ... but we have lost our edge. That is why most if not all the big companies are looking outside of our boarders. In the future, many people in my industry don't see the US as being the great consumer it is. It may very likely change to China. And if it does, economically we are going to be in big trouble.

Do USA actually make anything, anymore?

China quality can be really bad or quite good. It's the same development as Japan, Taiwan and Corea has been through. First low quality-low price, then improvements (and price increases  ). What could still be said, is that the quality "floor" in China is much lower than products made in Japan, US and Europe.

describe pizza to me from china (you cant its not the same i have seen the attempt)
i have been there many times and have never seen pizza on any menus for any places
please dont use nonsensical outside of your college dorm. you dont understand the real world and still need 3-4 years of knowledge
what do you order when you get pizza deliverd to your house in china?
be specific! lol you dont live there. HK dont count everyone has been there
Captain Grammar? i dont even understand this
but dont really care

Sorry, if you don't understand, here is a simple explanation that even a beer-country boy can understand. WHAT HAPPENS IN BEER COUNTRY IS NOT THE REAL WORLD. YOU CAN MAKE UP STUFF ABOUT THE REAL WORLD, BUT BEER COUNTRY IS ONLY ONE COUNTRY. SO CLAIMING YOU KNOW ANYTHING ELSE OTHER THAN WHAT HAPPENS IN BEER COUNTRY IS STUPID. YOU ARE GOOD AT GIVING ADVICE--YOU SHOULD TAKE IT. GO OUT OF BEER COUNTRY AND LEARN THE WORLD, ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GRADUATE.

yes i like to hijack threads for fun and profit.
they closed that pizza hut down
i think they put up a new one accross town by the river. but i dont really count pizza hut as real pizza anyways. thanks for proving they have only one crappy pizza place in all of shanghai.

Actually, that pizza hut is in Tianjin, not Shanghai. The only thing I've really proved is that you are amusing fellow shadowing the Sound Cards forum for god knows what reason.

What could still be said, is that the quality "floor" in China is much lower than products made in Japan, US and Europe.

There is still some A/V equipment made in the USA, but they tend to be only the very high end stuff such as Krell, Conrad Johnson, Revel, Mark Levinson....etc. I'm into high end audio and most of the best equipment is made in the US, UK, Germany, France and Japan. But recently the Chinese made equipment has gotten better. And a popular thing today for the entry level high end equipment is for a US or European company to design the equipment and then have it built to their standards in China. Epos loudspeakers are a good example they were once designed and built in the UK, but are now being built in China and are still very well built.

So I guess there is no real answser to your question of where the best stuff is built. It really depends on the individual company. There are both good and bad quality things being made in all differant parts of the world. You can no longer say that since a product is built in Us or China or Japan that its automatically good or poorly built.

All that being said if its possible you should always try to buy a product made in your country so you support your countries economy. Unfortunetly this is becoming very hard to do in the US and many European countries. Not much is being built in the US these days:(
