I'm trying to design an upgradeable gaming computer that would use one good nvidia card now, but be compatible with a SLI upgrade. This is my first build, and I was almost ready to order everything, but now I'm paranoid about everything but the dvd drive! I've got $2000 to spend, but should probably save some for a new monitor. Hard drive space isn't a huge issue, 500 gb should be plenty, so I was considering a raid 0 configuration. I'm pretty hesitant to overclock, but might on the cpu if anyone knows a good air cooling solution for that. Here is my current build, but I would change anything.

Motherboard: EVGA NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI FTW ATX Intel
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core
Case: Antec 900
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s
GPU: EVGA GTX 280 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express
PSU: Antec Signature SG850 850W ATX12V / EPS12V Modular
RAM: Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
DVD Drive: SAMSUNG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner SATA
OS: Vista Home premium 64 bit

I know that the psu isn't necessary for one 280 card, but I plan on using 2 cards in SLI when I need to. If the case will run hot, the Antec Twelve Hundred also looked good.
Does this seem like a good build? What would you change?

I agree. It'll definitely prepare you for the future.

As for CPU overclocking, Q1 of 2008 showed some excellent after-market air coolers.

The Big Typhoon - No, it's not loud, actually very soft. I've used this in a client's computer before, very good. Although it's massive, make sure your case/mobo has room for it.

Another good one is the Scythe - it performs almost as well as the Big Typhoon, and is a little smaller.

Remember, these are EXTREME coolers meant for very hot cases. Assuming you'll be overclocking the CPU, and possibly overclocking both SLI vid cards, they'll be a perfect match. But if it's not in your budget, don't be afraid to try out a cheaper one (but look at the reviews) or go for a Watercooled setup. But be warned, water cooling setups can be awkward to install and can be loud if you don't get a good pump.

Good luck!
