Hello everyone,

I'm facing an issue with my son's newly purchased GPU, the 3080 12GB Trio Z. He's experiencing frame drops in games, whereas I'm not, even though I have a 3080 10GB Eagle. After running some tests with UserBenchmark, it appears that his PC is performing below its potential, as it ranks in the 2nd percentile.

I compared the benchmark results of my PC (5900x, 3080 Eagle 10GB, 32GB 3600 RAM) and my son's PC (Ryzen 3600, 3080 12GB LHR Trio Z, 16GB 3200 RAM). Here are the results:

My PC with my normal build and my GPU: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/59705668
My PC with his 3080 12GB Trio: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/59706706
His PC with his normal build: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/59706422
His PC with my 3080 10GB Eagle: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/59705131
My question is, do the other components in the PC affect the benchmark? I'm aware that some parts of my PC have better specs than my son's. I'm seeking recommendations on what to do next.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Can you please include the make and model of the PSU in your son's rig? Include the age as well. you've also stated that the GPU mentioned above is brand new...what did it have prior to the RTX3080?

Have a look. Could be the ryzen 3600. The end of the article says that the 3600 would be better paired with a 3070. Might be worth considering jumping to a zen 3. A 5700x for example might be a good budget choice, or even a 5600x.

But definitely check for any processes running in the background and power supply first.

Thank you for the prompt responses. Although I've been a passive observer of this forum for years, I've never posed a question myself.

We recently performed a clean installation of Windows 10, so there isn't much on the system. However, I will attempt to remove the game launchers from the startup process and observe its performance.

Previously, he had a CX650M power supply, but he replaced it with an HX850 today and is experiencing the same outcome. This issue persists even after the fresh Windows installation.

The previous GPU he used was an AORUS Xtreme 1080Ti.

Run ubm like this.

Reboot.
Wait a few mins.
Run ubm with the browser closed.
Post a link to the results.

Hey everyone, I wanted to give you all an update on the issue I was having. I installed another SSD to see if it would improve my GPU's performance, and I'm happy to report that it worked! I was surprised because I didn't think that adding another SSD would solve the problem, but it did. However, since the Samsung SSD that we've been using for years is faulty, I've decided to order a new NVME drive. Thank you to everyone who gave me advice on this issue!
