Hi everyone,

I recently built a system with the following specs:
  • CPU: Intel Core i7 14700KF
  • GPU: ASUS TUF GAMING GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER
  • SSD: Samsung 2TB 990 PRO NVMe
  • Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS WIFI
  • RAM: G.SKILL 64GB (2x32GB) Trident Z5 RGB 6400MHz CL32 DDR5 1.4V Dual Kit
  • Cooling: ASUS TUF GAMING LC II 360 ARGB 360mm
  • PSU: ASUS TUF GAMING 1000G 1000W 80+ Gold
  • Case: ASUS TUF GAMING GT502 v2
  • BIOS Version: 1805 (latest, updated but never modified)
I have never changed any BIOS settings except for updating it to the latest version. I have no experience with undervolting, overclocking, or fine-tuning CPU settings.

While monitoring my system under load using HWMonitor, I noticed that VID Max reached 1.450V. This made me concerned about potential long-term effects, so I started researching BIOS optimizations.

My goal is to use my processor optimally for performance while ensuring long-term lifespan. I want to avoid excessive heat and unnecessary voltage that could shorten the silicon’s lifespan.

I would appreciate detailed guidance on what settings I should adjust, including:

  • CPU Voltage (VID/SVID settings, adaptive or offset mode?)
  • Power Limits (PL1, PL2 recommendations?)
  • Load-Line Calibration (LLC best setting?)
  • Any other settings that could improve stability and performance
Additionally, if there are any other settings I should adjust, could you please explain what they do and how I should configure them? Since I am new to this, step-by-step instructions would be very helpful.

I appreciate any guidance you can provide. Thanks in advance!

Here are some things for you to read;

BIOS Version: 1805 (latest, updated but never modified)

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model.

I noticed you've got your specs mentioned in your sig space. Sig space specs can and will change over time. When that happens this thread and it's relevant suggestion can and will be rendered moot to the end user in the same boat as you're in now. It's with this in mind, that we ask users to include their specs in the thread's body instead of stating, specs in my sig.

It could help if you would say what these are set to now.
Also on first boot or if you reset your bios does it ask you for the type of cooler you have or the type of performance you want?!

Also you are not clear on if you want overclocking or just the best performance while within limits of what intel set as normal.

Thank you for your response, I have made the necessary corrections.

I have read the article you sent before
(https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/comments/1er2m7v/help_with_i714700k_undervolting/)
But I don't know what to trust because ICC MAX 307A is recommended by intel but a user made 399A.

I am sharing a screenshot of the current settings; let me know if anything is missing.
Also, it didn’t ask me for any type at startup. However, I used Q-Fan Tuning to automatically adjust the fan curve.

What I want is not an advanced overclock. I want to stay in the safe zone. I’m not sure if my current settings ensure this—I read a few things that made me suspicious.
I also want my CPU to have a long lifespan.

But at the same time, I don’t want to miss out on my CPU’s power. So, I’m looking for an optimal scenario.
I mostly do gaming and rendering, so I’m a standard user in that sense.
