I am building a gaming pc (pc part picker link below) and it won't work. I have a amd fx 8350 and a gtx 660 ti. The other parts are in the pc part picker but that the cpu and gpu are what I think is causing the problem. It turns on and all the fans spin and the cpu heats up but nothing appears on the monitor and I don't get any beeps.

Please help and thank you,

Nedla

Ahh. I think it is best to check for the PSU because it is the weakest component of your entire build (doesn't necessarily mean it is the PSU but a good place to start). Avoid Coolmax PSU at cost.

The 12v rail on that PSU is only 450w, which is not enough for your fx 8350 and 660ti. If your PSU hasn't shorted out anything, replacing it should work.

For a rough start, take a look at this page with a huge grain of salt: Anything from tier 1-3 is fine, and there are a couple exceptions in tier4. It is not a perfect list.

You're spending a pretty penny for your rig, and it looks awesome, don't fall short on the PSU. It is the most important part of your rig.

I don't see your link to PcPartPicker.

There are many variables here. Tackle one at the time.

Easy ones first,

1. Check monitor and DVI/VGA cables (Plug in it with a known working pc or try a different monitor/cable with this new rig). Then go to next step.

2. Replace the GPU with an old/spare/different gpu, see if it works.

3. Replace the PSU with an old/spare/different psu, see if it works.

4. Take out Ram sticks try one at the time. see if you got a bad stick.

5. If not, then its most likely your mobo before its the cpu.

post that pcpartpicker link, so I take a look.

Thanks! Some of those parts I got used so I wouldn't have got them otherwise. I had thought that it might be the psu but I had no way of backing that up with any thing since pc part picker said it would work. I will try that when I get the money(I have used up my budget that I have now) and maybe even a new gpu. Thanks again,

Nedla

P.S. Can I get my wattage from pc part picker or is it unreliable?

Update: IT WORKED. Thank you so much. I put a lower wattage one that I had on hand in and it booted to bios.

I am glad it worked!

The wattage alone isn't reliable. You'll need to know the amps/watts supported by the +12v rail, as it powers the cpu, gpu, and mobo (all things connected to the mobo). The CoolMax 600w for example, only has 450w on the +12v rail, thus not enough for your rig. Good luck!
