Hello,

I wanted some help/advice on building a PC. I have only built one with a friend 8 years ago and its time for me to build a new one due to video/photo editing in 4K with Adobe & DaVinci Resolve . Also stream and game when I do have time.
I don't plan on overclocking, never really have. I also just want to mention I have no done a water cooling system either. I usually go airflow, but I believe this were I am getting stumped putting a PC together.
Below I have listed what I have collected so far, since these parts have been hard to get. I won a few Newegg shuffles to obtain what I have.
I just the MOBO below due to it being newer and supporting the 5950 and all the available ports. The case I've seen allot of builds on YouTube with that used some of my main parts. Memory I would like to go 64 but have no idea what im looking for.
I'm open to switching parts I don't own, I just need some guidance before I buy these final parts to put together. Thank you

Hey man thank you so much for taking the time to look over this build. Also Happy Holidays!
As I shared I'm like half way in with it as I been collecting parts. I added the other to drives I have to the list.
I did research on the mother board you picked out which makes sense to me with thermals and all the ports especially just going with a heatsink and airflow.
I just have a few questions for you if you don't mind as you are my only resource currently of finishing this off.

The case that you listed Lian Li Lancool II Mesh ATX Mid Tower Case - do I need to purchase extra fans for the airflow inside besides the ones that come with it? If so is there any you recommend? Also with the heatsink on top of the CPU you do believe it will fit right with the case? I tried doing the sizing for dimensions from each part. I believe it will.

For memory will this make a difference the fact that it says this?
"Note:The G.Skill Trident Z RGB 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory operating voltage of 1.45 V exceeds the AMD Zen 3 CPU recommended maximum of 1350 mv+7% (1444.5 mv). This memory module may run at a reduced clock rate to meet the 1350 mv voltage recommendation, or may require running at a voltage greater than the AMD recommended maximum."
If its fine ill stick with it.
Last question for windows. Does it matter if I go pro or home?

Thank you again for being amazing and helping me out.

The cooler is 165mm and you have 176mm for clearance, should fit fine.
The case has 8 x 120mm slots out of which 3 comes pre-installed. You can start with the stock fans and add more if required. Given the level of airflow in the case I doubt that you will need more. Alternatively, you can get 3 more fans to even the layout. I would suggest that you go through this in depth review to get the best understanding...

I was not aware of this voltage issue with Trident kits and didnt notice it at the time. And since they are the only option for that CAS latency, there are no alternatives with 2 x 32gb 3600mhz CL16 kits. The only other option is to populate all 4 slots but that can raise cooler clearance issue with heat spreaders and has to be low profile. Ideally its not recommended to buy RAM separately but identical specs. does tend to work more often than not. You always have a Return Window in the rare case they dont work...

Hi Hellfire,

First I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time out and seriously helping me. Human to human, thank you. It means allot especially not having anyone in person to help.
I have learned allot from you, the links you have shared, and sources from the internet.
I have watched and read the links you have provided, did measurements and also check the QVL for ram on the motherboard. I'm just sharing this information for myself and incase anyone every needs reference.
https://download.gigabyte.com/FileL...ermeer.pdf?v=8fb909ae75a80451015549345c0fbe1d (Gigabyte X570S )
I found Memory: Crucial Ballistix RGB 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory - which is on the list. I can place them in slot B and D which gives me the space away from the CPU cooler and low profile. The hard part...It is out of stock everywhere.

The youtube video of Gamer Nexus channel I believe it is, was very useful in knowledge about allot of different things. Thank you for that. I fully understand the case, I was on the fence about it but I will be getting the Lian Li Lancool 2 Mesh Performance case. Incase any one is wondering you due have to buy the type c usb attachment for it to work on the front it. It does not come prebuilt into the build.
I have this picture for reference https://pcpartpicker.com/b/RdL2FT - This shows Lian Li 2 Mesh case with the CPU deepcool assassin 3 in it. Its freaking huge!! But I am fine with that because I want to stay air.

After looking at that reference build of the case and cpu cooler my 1 question is do you think I will need the extra fans I was asking about before?
I also was using the logical increments website for help as well and found the cold storage the Barracuda for HD storage . I believe it is good.

Before I pull the trigger and buy the rest of the parts tonight, is there anything I am missing or you would change?
Thank you!

Do remember that QVL only lists the kits which were tested with the board by the manufacturer. If its not tested doesnt mean it wont work. Although there is no guarantee like the QVL, similar specs do tend to work more often than not.

As mentioned before, the case has pretty good airflow by default and you should try the stock setup before deciding on extra fans. Chances are, you wont need them extras.

Rest is golden.

Only thing I would change from what everyone has said is the power supply to a evga 1000 t2 , asus motherboard since its for work and u need this thing to last. Look into a corsair water cooler 360 rad kit. Les snoise plus cpu will push it self like a beast. Gigabyte and msi have spotty past lots of problems. In 30 years not one problem with asus board i have sold or used.

Hi Ssmokeyy,

I'm fine with changing the power supply, I will take a look at it. The only reason I wanted to go with the heatsink over the water cooler was because I will never overclock. I'm just not familiar with them in any way. That's why I choose to go with the deepcooler. I am still open to it as I'm buying the parts now. I just got the mobo in. But what mobo would you have recommended then?

I do have a final question. Researching more ram and not able to find the one I want. Doing research of what ram works with the mobo and best for 5950 cpu.
I found this G.SKILL Trident Z Royal Series 32GB and I wanted to know is if I bought 2 sets of the 32GB to get 64GB of ram for the editing. Will the mother board handle it? As they are only sold as 2 sticks of 16?

Thank you

The T2 is good, but its not essentially better. If you check out the Tier List linked above, its the same class as the HX irrespective of what the company claims in terms of 80+ standard as the 80+ standard is not completely compliant in terms of efficiency, power delivery and quality of internals. If anything, the HX is multi-rail switchable whereas the T2 is single rail and overpriced. Multi-rail PSU's are better simply because each rail has a lower Amperage rating that is a portion of the power supply's maximum. Both the PSUs are excellent though.

Water cooler is not essentially better than air cooler. Air coolers are fire and forget where as liquid needs a certain amount of vigil as there are instances of leakage, pump failures, liquid damage, bubbles, etc. I have stopped recommending them since I had a bad experience with one of the good brands that I am not going to name. In that instance it didnt only fail but took out other parts along with it through liquid damage. Not to mention the real good ones are pretty expensive compared to a similar performing air cooler and provides a marginal gain at double or triple the price. Also since you will not be overclocking you wont be needing one...

Should work fine but might be hard to fit under the cooler.

Well, thats a single sample size. If you search online you will find numerous issues about Asus boards just like Gigabyte and MSI. None of them are essentially better than the other in terms of failure rate.

I can tell u this asus has never sold bad parts on purpose like has been found put about msi has. Also I have had waybto many msinparts fail. Also I love corsair Nd they haven't ever let me down about standing by there products but I have had to warranty out there psu more times than I would like to. Gskill is the number 1 brand recommend for rzyen cpu. Even Linus from ltt has said that. I would recommend a asus pro art or any asus rog board above the strix line. Cooler if u are worried about water than I would look into the be quiet brand of upper end cpu cooler. Ranked best air cooler and Steve from gn has tested that and found those results. Also my sample size is alot bigger than most people. Not only have a been building and selling parts to people for many years I have alos ran two mining farms from my house. So I have stressed tested some brands more than others. It's about cpu head room not over clocking for u. So the longer u can keep the cpu cooler the longer the cpu will turbo and work harder for u. I have been running running for years and I love how silent it runs. My sons pc is all air and damn that thing is just loud enough it drives me nuts when I work on his pc. This is the cooler I would get to start in water cooling. https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categ...TE-CAPELLIX-Liquid-CPU-Cooler/p/CW-9060048-WW simple install and good cooling. Lots of reviews from gn and linus and jaystwocents. This turned out pretty long read hope this helped.

I get your point and that is why VRM list exists. They all have some good boards and some bad ones. The Asus High Tier boards are very good but expensive too. Doesnt mean the MSI or Gigabyte boards in that performance range are bad. Depends on which model you choose.

In my eyes msi is the lowest quality product u can buy. Just read up on what they have done to consumers. I would not support a company that cares more about making money than who they hurt. Im not the biggest fan but I would get asrock before msi. Look into the latest asus problem with the new board fire. They found out about the problem and had it fixed and recalling the boards in 4 days. Now thats customer service..

Well, I don't sell anything but I have built a lot of machines over the years and keep helping friends, family and acquaintances with their builds. I mostly use Asus and Gigabyte but have used MSI, ASRock and EVGA as well and never had any issues with them except a couple of DOAs maybe which were addressed by the respective retailers.
I can recall the MSI incident you are referring to from the top of my mind that resulted in fried mobos but it has been quite a while now and I think MSI has moved ahead of that. I don't have extensive experience with them so I cannot refute your point but I know for sure that their Tomahawk line is pretty decent.

One reason I have my stance on msi the way I do is I used to sell a ton of msi products and liked there mobo. It wasn't 12 months later started to have problems and didn't get good customer service l. Did not feel heard at all. Than what u talked about happen than again last year they were called out for up charging there own products on gamers. Bad bussiness. But I'm one of those people u burn me once and I will cut u off for life. Asus has always been great to deal with really I haven't ever Had problems. more of my calls have been about trying to find work around to do stuff they didn't list on the product. Evga is another one of those companies I love great people and they have been doing everything they can to help the gamers. Prices suck right now but there getting gamers cards.
