I have an i7 6700K on an ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming AURA mobo. I have a Cryorig H7 cooler and it idles at 30-40c at stock speeds and under load it goes up to 85c. I saw reviews saying this cooler runs at 15-25c idle and 60-80c at max load while overclocked to 4.5-4.7GHz.

I have tried to overclock to 4.5-4.6GHZ at 1.30-1.35v and Aida64 keeps saying hardware failure stability test stopped. Is this because of temps or something else?

Help?

I'M pretty sure, this is on my i5 but i use the exact same amount and method on the i7:

the stock cooler just shouldnt get the same temps as the h7

coolers cant really be defective as suchthey are only a lump of metal

only thing can go wrong with cooler is if the fans faulty or its not mounted right

unfortunately dont know why you are getting the same temps stock cooler against the cryorig as obviously under load the cryorig should win easily over stock

I agree with that, that's what confuses me, but I have re seated the Cryorig multiple times with the same results each time, and the fan does work cuz i can see it through my case window and I can hear it, it gets loud when the cpu is under load, way louder than the stock cooler. I could barely hear the stock cooler and the Cryorig sounds like a jet engine.

when you mount the cryorig

are you tightening the screws in a x pattern a bit at a time?

rather than fully tighten screw one do same for 2,3,4

as its the only thing i can think off that its not sitting flat

when you took it off did you look at the spread of the thermal paste?

Yes, I went in an x pattern, and heres a pic I took of the spread of the paste:

Would i get better results with an aio liquid cooler like a Corsair H100i v2? Or is it similar in performance to the H7?

Also, is there a certain tightness a cooler should be installed? I just tightened the screws until they were just past snug? I saw with the 212 EVO you should tighten it until the screws wont turn anymore, but I assume the H7 is different? I don't wanna break the cpu or socket lol. Too loose, too tight,or just right?

all depends on the cooler really some are designed to bottom out so cant over tighten them

they should be pretty tight but not to the point you are using a lot of force with the screwdriver
