Hello,

I am looking to build a PC for around $1000 dollars (without monitor). I play games and use software such as CAD and Matlab. Here is my list so far:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115207 $245

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128372 $123

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150316 $163

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129024 $162

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136319 $100

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827129023 $32

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211188 $50

.................................................................................................................Total $875

If you have suggestions PLEASE let me know. It is under $1000 so far, so the price can be raised a bit. It will be going in my bedroom, which is quite warm in the summer, so I may need additional cooling.

Any suggestions are appreciated!!

Edit: Uh oh well the links did not transfer over when I copied them. But that is my build. I will post the link to my thread. You can save some money on the case by going with the Coolermaster 690. It will do a very good job of cooling for cheaper. If you do not need a mouse and keyboard then that saves you some money as well, but if you do there is what I got.

Yes, you are right. I checked it out though. It includes more stuff than mine does. I look at the mouse and keyboard and little extras lol.

Woops! I did not notice that on the links for newegg! My fault! :D

I still recommend my build though and with a CM 690 case which should save you some cash over the Antec p182 I chose.

So if you can squeeze out a little more cash go for it, completely up to you though!

Also, if you don't need a keyboard and mouse that is $75 rite there, along with saving another $75 or so from switching the case that brings my build down to about $900 USD.

Hope this helps!

Yes the cooling on your system does look good which will be important. The only thing that makes me hesitant is the switch from intel to amd. I do like your case, power supply and cooling tho. Thanks for the suggestions!

But the PC &P is soo damn costly in the newegg.ca...

Get this instead...

here are some benchmarks that feature the intel quads vs the phenom II lineup in left 4 dead and fallout 3.

3369036863_72b4319be5.jpg

as you can see the phenom II X3 720 BE has a pretty good position in these charts in terms of gaming

As of right now, AMD is probably the best bang for your buck for a cheaper $1k system. For the people who can spend some more, lets say about $1400 then the intel i7 system is the way to go. IMO though, you will get the most performance for your budget by going with a x3 720 system. socket 775 is not a bad choice but in terms of upgrades you are not going to have too many options later on down the road.

Again it is all your preference, but this is my advice. Good luck! :D

Great find Jared!! And also +1 to gkay09 on his suggestions! If you can squeeze a little extra dough, gkay09's build is perfect. Also if you stick with the Corsair 750tx, you can crossfire another 4870 1gb later on!

@ gkay09

Well it is always tempting to squeeze in a better graphics card, haha.

Nice suggestions. I like your style, lol.

@ Waynec121

Well both you guys got me going towards higher clock speeds with less cores, which does make sense since not many programs use more than 2 cores.

Thanks for the advice, great help so far.

No problem at all! And if you really want to stick with intel I would suggest doing a e8400 cpu based build. You can get a pretty sick overclock on that cpu with a nice cpu cooler!

Overall though, my advice is still to stick with the x3 720BE in terms of performance vs. price!

Yes the X3 is a better choice...
U can also take advantage of the 3rd core in video editing and other apps too...

:p Thanks
And abt the card, u can get the 4850 instead
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102770
...the board is a crossfire board so u can add another later, and 2 of them in crossfire is more powerful than the GTX 280/285...

Thanks a lot for the advice. Yes I like having the option for in the future. That's why having another PCI E 2.0 can be so important.

I somewhat know how you feel. I just ordered my x3 720 build earlier today! It should be here by monday I am hoping. :D The wait is killing me haha, gonna be my first build.

Sorry to hear that though! Hopefully it will come soon so you can get the 720/ motherboard!!!

+1 to gkay's suggestion on the 4850! You can always crossfire another one later if needed! If the 4850 makes gkay's build suggested earlier in your budget, then by all means go for it.

Very nice gkay! If you build that, that rig would serve you well for a while! Later on you can another 4870 too for crossfire. All in all that is a perfect gaming machine!!!

I like my new list a lot, lol. I have exams coming up in april so I will have to wait until they are done to build this PC. Which will be at the end of april. By then some of these prices may be lower, and maybe I can even upgrade a little more

Thanks for the help guys!
