I have a p4 1.6 o/c to 2.1.. I have 512k ram. I have a gef ti 4200 128 meg video card.. The problem is, i dont want to a new computer since it is expensive and i am a newbie.. Is there anyway i can upgrade this one so i can run half life 2? i have counterstrike source and i get 30-40 fps on all low settings.. With counterstrike 1.6 i get over 90. I see the new half life engine takes up a lot of resources i guess.. any ideas? my motherboard is an asus p4s533. Someone told me to get get 1 gig of ram and a new video card and that should do it.. any ideas?

My motherboard has 3 memory slots, 1 which has the 512kram in it.. SHould i just buy another 512k ram? or get rid of it and buy 1 stick of 1 gig of ram? i dont want to mix 2 different memories together and have problems.. I have mushkin ram rated at 2 2 2 in the pc now.

What video card can i get to run this game? All i do is play games so im not concerned about anything else?

thanks.

We say 512mb.

Well, you can always get a r9600pro / xt ...but your cpu will hold you back a little.

Adding memory wont get you anything.

ATI 9800 Pro Retail for $165 at NewEgg, or $150 elsewhere...
Then you will have graphic power to spare, and carry over to new mobo, if upgrade is AGP compatable...

P4S533 is a great board. My friend ran his P4 1.8A at 2.4B speed with RAM at DDR400! I think you can get more out of your CPU, I'd try around 166MHz bus to get it to 2.66GHz. I'll assume for a moment that you have PC2700 RAM (DDR333) to match.

The 9800pro will help the most.
Rather than spending $167. (P4b@ 2.8) for a 22% cpu gain, you should get an NF7-S ($87) and a 35w xp-m 2400+. This chip can OC to >P4c 3.2 perf.
But get the Radeon first.
