Ok new problem! I'm putting in a new mobo and dont have $150 for another OS, is there a way of getting around having to buy a new OS. Can I use the my current windows on the new mobo?

As long as your OS is not off a Dell/Acer/HP just reactivate

yes its already activated on my current system and I want to put it on my new system that I'm building. See I built a system about 2 months ago and put Windows Vista Home Basic on it and I want to put the same OS on my new mobo that i'm putting in. I'm keeping everything else the same, all I'm changing is the mobo.

you cant leave it on your current system , but other than that you should be fine .

if you have to buy a copy get oem . Cheaper and its the exact same thing

You can only legally run it on 1 pc. So if you are simply reformatting after installing a new mobo, you can use the same OS.

I'm just swaping the mobo i'm puting the same hdd that i got now.

You may not even have to reinstall windows then. It's a toss up when you change hardware like that. Sometimes it will boot right up like nothing's different. Other times you will have to reinstall windows.
