Well, you can count on Microsoft to screw something up for users, I know my dad is mad about loosing Spider Solitaire in Win 8. They make you create a Microsoft account and log into it just to download the so called 'Free App' so they can track users activities. I hate logging into a Windows account just to run programs on a computer I already own, no point in that extra step for users, Huge hassle. And removing DVD support is ridiculous, at least let us keep WMP as poor as it is. WMP 11 was actually quite decent, WMP 12 though sucked when they remove your skins on every update and took away the tool bar control.

Not sure I want 10, will it really be that much faster or better? Seems more like online tracking and forcing people to use their cloud services, and forced Updates for many? That is just wrong too.

I miss x p vista sucked 7 was ok 8 sucked and now it seems the same for 10. Gonna pawn my car buy a Mac or I'll just use my gen 3 iPad I got for $180. Been so frustrated burning ISO boot disks, just formatting the c: drive. My girl players the card games the removal of the gadgets only good thing. No native dvd support I know other players out there but come on. Thought 10 was going to burn ISO files do not see that if you can't watch a DVD.Guess Linux is an option

well from statement like that you sound like you know nothing about computers considering you want every computer program in the world included with an OS so might as well take your chances with a mac even though they don't come included with every program you are looking for and are way overpriced

Before letti ngs W10 overarch your existing installation, take copies of the flies you want to keep. Example: If you're that bothered about Solitaire (I play a few games every time my phone interrupts my work), sol.exe wll give you Solitaire if you also include cards.dll. I'm still using the version that came with XP.

I'm more concerned about whether I can take the W10 upgrade (I'll decide later whether it's that or a downgrade) and install it as a dual-boot or if it installs over my existing W7. I've done it that way with the preview but I fear the final RC will want to wipe W7 out.

Not really, I'm 56 I build so I get what I want without over paying, not asing windows 10 for more but not less. You must work for Microsoft. Do you realize how hard it is just to format your drive c: without partitions after X P. I Benin trying for a month

I got ISO for vista 32 bit vista 64 bit win 7 32 bit ((it runs til u do all the up grades ) win 64bit. Built a brand new computer. Amd 9590 liquid cooled 8 gig ( all I could afford) as us 990fx saber tooth r2.0 nvidia 750 til graphics 650 watt PSU the mem stick is 1866, why all the issues if windows is so great and they taking crap away (MR 13)

I just dont know hey, it all sounds flakey. I dont know what the rush is to churn out all these "new" Windows versions??? Why not rather keep the existing versions (XP, Vista and 7) and improve on them for flip sakes? Rather release update packs with new improvements and features and let people pay for those. It will be better for companies manufacturing hardware as they do not need to create new drivers for new OS's all the time and for software developers who can focus on making software instead of having to create from scratch everytime a new freaking OS pops up every year. Not everyone want to be backed up in a corner by new OS versions making the perfectly tried tested working OS's obsolete in the form of no more support/drivers/software/updates etc

Well til I here more I'm sticking with my unsupported x p, I have 7 don't want 8. And to the flunky that said I on ow nothing about computers there would be no windows if it weren't stole from Apple. Btw I truly can't afford one but there has to be a reason why peeps shell out the cash for a Mac. It's been years back , but Ely Lily in Indianapolis had a Mac in every office and a cray (sp?) super compute guess they didn't know crap either.

I really just wish windows would just something better than trying to reinvent the wheel every time. It is one mans opinion thought that's what forums were for not to be talked down to

I love my Media Center PC. Now the Microfools are dropping it with windows 10. I guess I will be jumping on the Apple train!

It is pretty easy. I have installed Windows hundreds of times (95/98/2K/XP/Vista/7/8) and it is still similar to the old ways. You can even load up a command prompt in the 7/8 install and run a format there without partitioning it.

Rush? I wouldn't say that they are rushing it out. It isn't like they have a brand new OS every year.

And one of the biggest changes people don't see is the kernel, which is not as easy as just running an upgrade as it controls the entire OS.

Apple wouldn't exist if it were not for Microsoft who saved them after the board of directors voted Steve Jobs out.

As for the GUI, that was actually Xerox who developed the first GUI and gave it to both Microsoft and Apple not caring what they did with it. Apple just happened to get theirs (Mac OS 1.0 1984) out a year before Microsoft did (Windows 1.0 1985).

And people pay for Apple products because of great marketing, ease of use and for some it is just a status symbol (those who think what costs more is better).

Windows 10 is looking to be a great OS. Of course there will be those who complain or don't like it but then again every OS release has had that. Right now DVD licensing is pretty expensive and most people don't use their PC for that.

What this means though is that you can still use DVDs but to play movies you will need a third party program, such as Cyberlink or VLCPlayer.

This sucks. I'm glad this article points out some of the things that will be removed.
I'm also concerned about what games & other software will no longer work or be compatible with Win 10? This is one thing Microsoft is not telling us.
Those who opt to download it & install it will find out what other important & expensive software will no longer work. I hope this move towards Win 10 does not mean the upcoming end to Win 7. I use Win 7 Ultimate on every PC I built, & every copy cost me $180.00. Why in the world would I want Win 10 & loose all the features I love & use every day. This Win 10 idea sucks.

Do I have to give up windows 7 to receive the Windows ten program. Will it wipe out all the other programs that I can use on windows 7 or does it have a complementary program that came with earlier Windows versions ? If it will wipe out all my other programs you can keep it.

Someone wrote above that Windows Media Player will go; so far not only has MS not said it, but the preview has WMP in it and working nicely, though I've not tried DVD playback. Remember - it is Windows Media CENTER that is being removed, that being the tool one uses to have a PC serve media to a TV in lieu of most other PC functions. Now will WMP play DVD's?

I will install Win 7 on a different hard drive & let Win 10 upgrade it & keep my Original "C" drive with win 7 as a secondary boot drive.
I'll set it up so I can boot to one or the other. This way I can play with Win 10, but will not give up & always have Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit. It costs #180.00 per OEM disk & there is no way Win 10 will surpass Win 7 Ultimate or any version of Win 7 in my opinion.

I will stay with Win 7 (Pro and Home) and not even think about getting Win 10 for free.

My gadgets all work fantastic.

My programs work flawlessly.

I know how to fix anything that might seem to be an issue.

If it ain't broke, I'm not gonna fix it.

I decide what updates I want, when I want, and am not going to ruin my life by having to go down another learning curve.

The only topic which worries me is this "automatic updates". I use windows 7 ultimate in all my computers yet, the first thing I do after each new install of windows if to set the updates only to be checked, not downloaded or installed, only when I want. I like to have control on these updates.

Yep ! I agree, Win 10 won't be worth a learning curve. Why would I want all my goodies taken away?
Instead of getting better. Microsoft just keeps finding ways of ripping us all off. They make things more complicated with hope they get more calls for Tech Support. This is the real hidden truth behind the move. Many people got used to the Win 7 format & learned how to fix things & the phone calls to Microsoft's Tech Support got less & less. So now, they look for a new way to increase revenue. Think about it. Why would I want to throw away Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit? That OS cost me $180.00 per copy & I built 5 custom gaming configs in the last 10 years & they all Run Win 7 Ultimate. Win 10 is just another way for Microsoft to rip us off again. Ever since Bill Gates left, it's gone down hill.

Forced updates makes me unhappy but I do understand why they're doing it. Protection of the masses from the few and what not.

No wmc? No loss. Been using vlc for so long i forget when I first got it. Plays cd/vcd/dvd/hvd/hd-dvd/bluray/dts disc....
Media was a thorn in the side of Microsoft. The average user liked it but the target audience for the "experience " reports to help find bugs never used it. It was generally buggy and costs Didn't justify inclusion. And the n/k/l/ch/ln/i/... versions? Not worth it for big ms.

Msdn has a thread about a card game package in development and makes direct Reference to snood solitaire... a massive package of hundreds of games so i see dropping built in games when you can download one for free or buy 200+ for 9.99? I see good impulse purchase sales there.

Uefi is mandatory. Boot locking is /not/ required but is not prohibited either. Make sure you watch out buying a new system or risk being banned from using a second os.

I think that covers it right?
Long live desktop.

Honestly you haven't said anything "good." No built in card games. Ok. Can't use the WMC, not a deal buster. Uefi (don't know what that is) but I'm sure I can't be without it? So where the beef?
