My 10TB Ultrastar started making clicking noises a few months ago that sound like the heads moving around even though nothing im aware of is accessing the drive. It doesn't happen in bios which means it's something Windows is doing. I thought the heads would have no reason to move unless it was requested to read or write data so i'm clueless here since resource monitor shows no activity on the disk at all. The drive has passed all tests i have thrown at it and seems to be in perfect working order. But the constant clicking is really getting on my nerves.
I have tried dampening the noise by removing any direct contact with the case with thick anti static foam (not touching the drive as it's in a rack) But it's still just as loud. Was worth a try i guess
Oh and i read somewhere that it could be advanced power management but it is listed as Present, Inactive in HWiNFO so it's not that either
