Hi My harddrive failed and i bought a replacement to install in the desktop, and when I start up the computer nothing happens

Do this step before installing windows on that drive. (It helps your system detect the hard drive first).

Go into your bios settings (press the del key or the key your manufacturer assigned to access the bios after you power on your pc)
Move to the "advanced" tab with the arrow keys
Locate the sata configuration option
Press enter on it
Change the mode from IDE to AHCI (if there are similar options in your bios locate it and follow this step)
Save settings and reboot

well i understand all that but i push the power button and the light around the power button flashes and the speaker on the motherboard beeps and nothing comes up on the screen so i cannot get into bios, the computer worked fine up to the hard drive failure

If you cannot get into your bios, turn off the power from your pc.Remove the silver button battery called the cmos battery from the notherboard for a few minutes and put it back in. Power it back on and check if you can access the bios
