High corsair h100i temps?

I just recently installed a corsair h100i in my system which is replacing my zalman CNPS 9700. after booting and going into the bios, i noticed that my cpu temps were not as good as my Zalman. my idle temps with the zalman were around 28-31 C and with the H100i they are 35-40. under 100% load, running prime, there is a large gap between the h100i and the zalman where the zalman would never go over 50 but the h100i goes to about 65 . things I have tried are taking h100i off and replacing paste with arctic silver 5 and maxing the fans (sp 120's quiet edition) on the rad. The mounting of the h100i and backplate seem perfect and the pump is running at 2170 rpms (not sure if that is good or not). I am thinking about going back to Zalman but am hoping there is a possible solution to this.

Well, those temperatures don't really matter.

When you reapplied paste, how much did you put? Waterblock mounting is also a decent part when it comes to these CLC's.

I put about a pea size and spread it into a little square probably 1 cm x 1 cm and let the heat from the CPU spread the rest of it out. I used the same method on my Zalman heatsink. I guess what i am trying to ask is if it is worth keeping the h100i on or do i revert back?

You should have spent the money on a custom watercooling loop!

did you tighten the block in an x pattern?

ie screw 1 then screw 3 then screw 2 then screw 4

those temperatures are worse than my h80

and i am heavily overclocking my 2600k

Yes I believe so. I did opposite corners like you explain. One thing I did notice about the backplate is that when I tightened it to my motherboard it was loose until I mounted the h100i. I watched a video guide And that person had that happen with the backplate as well. I guess I could retry it if you think it would be good idea.

Thought I would add this too. I ran the p95 test using the max heat test all cores instantly within a minute went to around 70 and over. Used core temp to monitor.

i am not a great fan of prime95 as it puts your cpu through far more than real life use does

but just to give you a comparison i just ran it for 5 minutes on the max heat test

hyperthreading on

dropped my overclock a bit for the test--so at 4453mhz and 1.320v

coolest core 61c hottest core 69c

with h80 push/pull venting out of the case

and silverstone air penetrator fans instead of the corsair ones

edit--

just ran at roughly default specs

3.5ghz at 1.176v max heat test for 5 minutes

coolest core 46c hottest core 52c

ya mine is far from that. I just watched a review about the h100i and it said that the intel backplate was not measured correctly which causes the h100i to not put enough pressure on the cpu. he suggests using an older backplate such as the h100 one or extra nonmetal washers with the plate so i am gonna give that a go with the washers.

problem with adding washers is how do you know what thickness to use?

this might be a silly question but i seem to remember my h80 had different screws for different fixings

you did use the right screws for socket 1155?

as i think the screws were different lengths for 1156 etc

Well I added rubber washers to the backplate and tightened it using opposite corners and wow did that make a difference. running max heat p95 i am not going over 50 C on any core and and idling much lower.

With artic silver it's best to put a skittles sized drop on the processor and use the heat sink to spread it as it locks into place, make sure it's tight! if any of the stuff comes out around the edge use a qtip/toothpick to clean it. You should never prespread artic silver as it might make bubbles between the processor and heatsink.

Now this advice is irrelevant if you have a delid processor. With that you must spread evenly on the die so that it doesn't touch anywhere it shouldn't.
