hi, i tried to google it , but i didnt know what should i search :)

i'm trying to build a new pc...
i want to choose ryzen 5 3400g with an a320 till later i have money to get a dedicated VGA.

will i be able to use ryzen 5000 later on this?
what about other high end CPU? like R7 3700X or even higher? whats the difference between having best Chipset like X570 and low cost A320 +ryzen 9 3900? if its not more slot for ram and more USB or things like that?

thanks

Solution
thanks, to be fair, i'm not going to pair it with 3900... that was just an exaggerated example.
but i may try to pair it with r5 3600 or r7 3700 later if i had to buy a GPU...
nothing special, casual gaming and upgrade my 13-15 YO pC with p965 chipset + Q9400+Nvidia 1030
still serve me well but lack of usb 3 and not being able to use SSD is bothering me.
anytime i decide to update it , its a middle of generation, and i decide to wait for stsrt of new one. i think this is the last UPdate for AM4 sockets. on the other hand, intel GPU is worthless and for all i know ryzen 3400g apu do much better than 1030 (buying GPU is not an option now)

chosing LGA1200 on the other hand is another option, but its overpriced! also intel didnt offer...

Well you can install ryzen 5 3400G with A320 it's fine but you cannot install ryzen 5000 series cpu with 300 series chipset Mobo. And i checked in one of the gigabyte A320 S2h that it supports 3000 series processor however theres no reason in the world to pair A320M chipset Mobo with ryzen 9 3900 it would work but you shouldn't why; you loose pci lanes which is important for Nvme drives and gpu the quality of pcb and power delivery phase which is important to power these high end cpu. You should always balance your hardware if you wanna go with 3900 get a decent x470/X570 or get b450 with something like ryzen 5 2600/3600. What is the purpose for this PC?

You should be able to get by with a 3700X on most A320's with the right BIOS update; some people actually run 3950's on them. But Zen3 is not supported on any 300 series chipset boards and AMD says it won't get a BIOS ever. That said, there are already reports of people getting one to work but don't be tempted by that because it's very limited type of 'working' as it's slow and buggy in Windows. Most likely memory isn't being set up right for the processor and other things.

what would u suggest?
i dont know what are PCI lane and the details... by GPU , do u mean igpu or dedicate one?

I can understand being in a tight budget the problem is according to me you aren't upgrading alot from 4c/4t to 4c/8t Yes there are many architectural upgrades in the 3400G and it's gonna be faster but if you already have a 1030 this what ill do get a B450 and 1600AF and a ram kit that's what ill consider a upgrade and you could find a deal in used market imo. On the other hand intels 10th processor are actually much better value for money Yes that's depends on what price it's being sold for, but for instance i5 10400f gives good performance for its price. And by pci lanes i meant the pci slot and you even won't get nvme i suppose. And why aren't you able to install a ssd?? Your Mobo probably has Sata 2 due to which it won't utilizes the ssd to its fullest that being it will still be faster than your hdd. And if your pc serves you for now wait for a while and in the meantime get a ssd and usb 3.0 pci card. And as i mentioned above get 1600AF and b450 with ram.

hi
ssd is my priority and i have plan to get nvme 128 gb ...
about pci, if lanes are slot, then i just need one for my wifi card (tplink n951) , it requires one big slot. other than that i need nothing.
1030 serves me well but i rather 1050 for a bit better performance since it can't handle 60fps in dota 2 higher settings.
9400 bottleneck even 1030, it's always 100% usage
and my mobo doesn't have sata2 ... (p5b)

abot price: its kinda funny in my area, i3 10100 is 10-20% higher than i5 9400F...
so 10400 is not an option

p.s: i have asus fx505-1650 ... thata why i think APU serves me well... also i may buy ps5 later if i need that...

There are different types of pci lanes slot like x1,2,4,8 and 16, generally gpu uses pcie x16, your wifi card probably uses pci slot , and why do you want a nvme drive of 128gb dont buy the nvme ssd if 128gb is what you want and what Mobo are you currently using?? Because it should have a sata port.

asus p5b..
i see, so pci express is for VGA and i suppose every mobo have one... then i need a Normal PCI. as i figure out, there is a smal and there is a big one.... i need the big one for my wifi card

asus a320 m c r2.0 i what i decided to buy because it have both NVME and the pci slot i need. (thats a nvme? right?)

i never seen my laptop use more than 8GB out of 16 GB ram it already have, so i think 12GB would be more than enough for me

also whats wrong with NVME 120GB, and probably Samsung? my OS drive is less than 40GB and 80 GB is enough for Dota 2+overwatch and CS Go ... also i can use the HDD for these games... all i care is a fast OS

Yes that Mobo has m.2 nvme slot the problem with small capacity drive is they are are slower compared to the same model of larger capacity and the lifespan of the smaller size ssd is less 250gb is minimum but 500gb is recommended . If you want you could go with a sata ssd and later spend for maybe 500gb.

Forgot to mention only the first m.2 slot is nvme

is there a 2nd one on this mobo?
well i tried to google different btw this mobos, i think a520 is a better choice with more upgrade paths...
please correct me if i'm wrong, but i saw an article says 400 series last upgrade path is Zen 3 (5000 i guess)
does this mean if i have 500 series, i can get ryzen 6000 later? also, does this mean AMD is no longer going to change from AM4 ? its kinda confusing....

also the price for i5 9400f is much lower in my area! 71% of ryzen 5 3400G...
and the price for h310 is 66% of A520

what do u think?

The last cpu update path for 400 and 500 chipset Mobo is Zen 3. And no 500 chipset is the last of AM4 socket Mobo and won't support ryzen 6000 cpu. While 9400f could be considered i must inform you that it does not have igpu and must be paired with B360/B365 Mobo. The 'H' specifically H310/410 mobo should not be considered. It seems you are building a new pc if you could tell me for what purpose and budget your build is then i could help you better :)

would you please tell me what do i miss if i pair 9400+h310? its fine, i have a 1030, that way i dont need igpu
as i mentioned in our previous posts, i'm just upgrading a 15yo pC ... + a little casual gaming.

my budget is not in $ and price in my region is really different from world 🙁
but
my budget can support
i5 9400+h310+8 or 12 gB ram this way i keep my 1030
or
h410 + i3 10100 + same ram+ keep 1030
or
ryzen 5+ A320(roughly 520) + same ram without 1030 (this way i have to sell my 1030 and spend it on higher price of AMD

for the other parts , i keep my old pC like my PSU (450W) and case or optical drive ....

by the way, my monitor is LG Full HD ips

Before we address that is your psu replaced or its 15 years old not a good idea to upgrade if that old,and from which country are you??What about ryzen 5 1600?

ryzen 5 1600 is 20% slower compare to i5 9400f (around 135$ here) , and the price tag is same as 3400g, even a bit higher... ( well around 210$)
i tried to calculate and convert it to $ ...

my psu is 15yO and around 5000-6000h overall work time ( same as my HDD)...

Go with the 1600-Yes I'm series you are better with 1600 and have 6 core/12 thread, else you can consider 2600 if not possible then you should go for 1600 with a B450 and i won't recommend that psu with new hardware its possible that your psu affect your other components in negative ways.

Spend $5 today, just on enough to get buy, and tomorrow you need to spend $10 because getting by yesterday isn't nearly enough to keep up with today. Grand total, you spend $15 for something halfway acceptable.

Or spend $10 today and be good until next week.

Yes, the initial outlay is more, but the end result is cheaper. I can well understand budget shopping (raised 4 kids) but sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture. Get the best cpu you can, it'll last the longest and give the best performance for longer. A motherboard that will handle today and tomorrow's tech, not just yesterday's.

Trying to squeeze by with the minimums is always a losing proposition.

after a little search and comparing 9400 and 1600, i dont think i go with 1600... i see no point to chose such high priced and outdated CPU that also perform slower with such motherboard....
i still think those 3 option i chose is better and get better performance/$

also i didnt get what do i miss by pairing 9400 + h310...

Ok you my opinion for 1600 was for 12t for multitask, if you want you could go for i5 but not with h310 because the bus speed through with cpu, memory, gpu and sata aren't good compared to a b360 and thus must be avoided unless a business pc but for custom built must be skipped

H310 chipset

B360 chipset;
https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/133332/intel-b360-chipset.html
Check the bus speed and pci3 version on the H310 and B360 you'll notice the difference, to learn more about them just click the question mark icon. I'm short basically bus lanes communicate with all you hardware
Front Side Bus (FSB) is integrated in your cpu in old pc you could see a heatsink between cpu and pcie, and the other bus communicated between your sata, mobo back io and other pci stuff like wifi etc. Explaintion in three words 'Go For B360'.

ofc i go for 360 , difference is really low... around 10%
Asus prime b360 m-c
it has my big pci slot as well

so, all of them being same number us nit a good thing?
i remember there use to be Dram:fsb those days i built my 15 yo pc..
they said its better if u pick that 2:1

though i didn't Search why...
is this same thing?

I dint get you. Nowadays there are no FSB and BSB,the cpu manages the FSB which is integrated in it and there will be a chipset at the bottom right.
