deal was too good to pass up
It really is too good to be true. 60 bucks for 850W ATX 3.0 PSU - doesn't happen. Unless you get a crap, which you did.
The PSU you have, is: Inter-Tech SAMA XPH-850A.
Here are the official specs of the black version:
https://www.inter-tech.de/5261/XPH-850A-EN.html
There are so many red flags, that i'm not going to even count them all. But to point out some;
* WAY too cheap price for 850W ATX 3.0 PSU. Double the price and then we can talk about good quality PSUs.
* No actual efficiency rating. The marketing image on the Egg has so many flaws. What is "80PLUS White Gold Certification"? There is no such thing. Image shows 80+ Platinum. Text just beside it is mixture between 80+ White and 80+ Gold.
* Official specs say that the black version has 5 years of warranty. Paint the PSU white and it magically gains another 5 years of warranty, to 10 years as said by the marketing in the Egg? Doesn't happen.
* Chinese, non-reputable review is of the black unit. It is completely unknown if the white unit even has the same innards as black one has. It does look similar on the outside, but this is not sufficient enough.
* Inter-Tech is known to make crap quality PSUs. So, i don't think that your cheap white unit would be any different. It is a nice paperweight though.
Since PSU powers everything, it is
the most important component inside the PC.
With this: NEVER cheap out on PSU! (Which you did.) Also, never buy used PSU either.
You can cheap out on every component inside the PC,
except PSU.
So, go out and get a good quality unit this time around.

From what I understand, the 5v rail is not used for much compared to 12v.
All SATA drives are using 5V. And so are all USB ports and network ports. So, 5V rail is as important as 12V rail.
12V is used by: CPU, GPU and MoBo (e.g case fans).
3.3V rail is the one that is almost obsolete now. Used to be where RAM and FDD used 3.3V but RAM power is now converted from 12V by MoBo and no-one uses FDD anymore.
