High Pings when anything is downloading.

Ever since the beginning of October.

I've been having high pings and slower download speeds (1.3 MB/s -> 400 KB/s)

Now I noticed that whenever something is downloading and run a pingtest. It will have massive problems. About 10% packet loss average, 500 ms Ping and above 100 ms Jitter.

I proved this by downloading a CS:GO update. When downloading I got around 600 ping then during the test I paused the download and it would gradually reduce.

Usually there are 9 devices on average connected to the internet, But even when I restarted the router to reset the clients. I still had a problem

I ran full virus checks on my computer and defragged the hard drives.

Specifications:

Router Model: Linksys WRT310N

Computer:
Mainboard : ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. P8H61-M LX PLUS
Processor : Intel Core i3 2120 @ 3300 MHz
Power Supply: XFX 550W

WiFi adapter: N900 Dual Band Wireless USB Adapter TEW-684UB

OS: Windows 8

ISP: Distributel Communications

So if anyone has any suggestions? Maybe if its a computer problem or a router problem. Or just a problem on my ISP's end.

Yesterday I noticed both my phone and computer were experiencing MASSIVE lag. but right now, downloading an app and running a speed test at the same time on my phone don't have an effect on it. Can't say how it goes for the other devices though

Same result. Also on the router. It has 4 computer logos. When the Ethernet cable is connected to my brothers computer its blue.. When its connected to mine it's yellow greenish

ETHERNET (1, 2, 3, 4 - Green/Blue) – These numbered LEDs corresponding with the numbered ports on the router’s back panel, serve two purposes. The LED is solidly lit when the router is connected to a device through that port. It flashes to indicates network activity. Green indicates Gigabit speeds and blue indicates 10/100 speeds.

His connection is fine, with downloading... and like 40 tabs open in google chrome. So I'm guessing this is a computer problem. Any programs to suggest? if it is

This problem both occurs on LAN and WLAN. I also have already tried that

If his connection is fine - and your connection is not - even when connected to the modem directly, something in your computer is amiss....it could be drivers, it could be your IP V4 settings - since it is both wi-fi and wired - that has me worried about what it can be - as both have different setting supposedly.....

I can't find a restore point before this lag started happening. Another note I found is that, Let's say 400 KB/s is my maximum download speed as of now. In steam I can throttle my cap to no limit or 64 KB/s. If I cap it at 256 KB/s which is essentially 1/3 of my download cap. Pings are fine. Then i raise it to a cap of 512 KB/s then it would go bad again.

Is there an option in 192.168.1.1 that can limit a certain device's download speed. Is there possibly something my brother is hiding from me?

When you plugged in directly to the modem, and the ping and downloads were still lagging, that eliminated any settings in the router that limited you.

There are programs that you can install on a computer to limit download speeds....netlimit is one of them. This would have an effect on download speed, but shouldn't put the ping times off by the numbers you have posted.

If your brother is sharing the connection with you, and he is playing a game that utilizes high bandwidth and/or using torrents, it can have a big effect on your computer....that is why I said to connect it directly. The process of troubleshooting is eliminating the possibilities until you are left with the solution. Your upload speeds are very low....but the download is doing well.....

Yeah the upload speeds are always bad (Before this it was 50 KB/s though), I don't mind. His computer is always on sleep but I disconnected his computer from the ethernet so he's not connected to the internet and I still had a major problem. However if I were to actually connect to the modem and I still had this problem. What should I do

Nope, no torrents or netlimit or anything utilizing the internet on my end
