Highest 939 processor that is support with AmberineM-GL6E motherboard

hello all
i am trying to upgrade my motherboard processor since i broke three pins off my amd 64 x2 4200+ 939 processor. it still is working just now my sound and two of my ram slots don't work now because of it. i am looking at a AMD Dual Core Opteron 170 2ghz (OSA170DAA6CD) Socket 939 right now i am only running 2 gigs of ram i usually have 4 gigs even though the 32 bit only allows 3.5 gig to run. and as you can see hp doesn't have anything if above processor every was tempted to be installed in the motherboard or not. i would think if the processor is oem/tray type it should work but i want to make sure before i waste my money and another reason why i am looking at opteron processor is right now they seem the cheaper ones on ebay.

The opteron 170 should work in your board.

ok thanks do you also think opteron 165-175 would work as well just encase i lose the bid for the 170.

Most all 939 boards supported the full spectrum of 939CPU's so I belief it would, the opterons had similar clocks to the athlons and in the worst case would be mis identified as such.

What's your budget? Is it really worth spending money on that system when AM3 boards and CPU's are so cheap right now?

well for me right now it is since i am on a fix income and i have look in more up to date motherboards and this is the cheaper root for me right now since if i got a better motherboard that means i would have to get the processor and ram and a computer case and probable a new power supply as well. since right now spent money already on a new motherboard of the same type that i have now and i have the max ram for the mother and a 400 watt power supply and ati hd 4550 graphics card so all i need to keep me online and able to play some games is a better processor and the opteron dual core process seems to be cheaper than the amd 64 x2 4200-4800 939 processor which is weird. if i had and extra 2k i would either go to a specially shop for gaming computers or build my know but my budget is like 200 bucks each month.

An Opteron probably wouldn't work. HP's microcode CPU support is atrocious.

Anyway, if you are in the US. there are lots of $30 X2 3800's on the eBay which are just as fast as that 170 and have to work.

I'd probably limp along until I get together some money for a replacement.

What sort of windows license do you have?

Anyways, for $150 you can get yourself a pretty good CPU, Motherboard and RAM. If you bought the OS separately (not the license on the machine) then this sort of upgrade is a piece of cake. That's all I mean.

Don't know what there is to distrust about 7 (or Vista even). XP was really bad when it first came out. 7 runs oh so well on my little slow nettop.

ok all i thought i should let you know if that opteron 180 does work in the above motherboard since this is what i just put in my computer with a same type of motherboard just new AMD Dual-Core Opteron 180 2.4 GHz 939 CPU Processor OSA180DAA6CD and it is working find so far now i just need to learn how to overclock the cpu since the ah heck can do at least 2.8.
