Hiring Mercs

I know that some of you swear by hiring different mercs for different
levels. Right now I'm in Act III and I'm still using my original rogue
merc. Should I be changing by now? If so, there's a lvl 24 for hire - a
fire merc. Would that be an appropriate hire for my necro? And yes, I
will remember to disrobe my present merc prior to hiring new.

Now that depends entirely on what char you are playing. Tank style mercs
(act 2 or act 5) are a must for zons and sorc. If you are all about the
aura's/magic then you need an act 2 or 3 merc. If you hate rezzing your merc
constantly then a rogue works as she (when the A.I. isn't being stupid) will
stay out of range. Myself I use a act 1 for pally and barb, act 5 for my zon
and necro, act 2 for my sorc and I forget who I have with my druid I do
believe I stuck with the act 1 rogue cause he is the tank. It's all about
char setup, pref and gear 8D

Almost everyone agrees that if you are a skellimancer, the best merc is
nightmare act2 offensive (might aura, doubles damage).
Until then, it doesn't matter too much, if you find a great weapon for a
different one, fine, switch if you want, otherwise I usually just stay with
the rogue until I get to nightmare act 2, especially after I put 3 pgems
into a bow for her to have some 'real' damage.

I will add that even if I would find an amazing weapon for another merc, I
would still choose the Might merc for my Skellmancer. Also it seems that a
lot of polearms or spear weapons drop a lot for them if they are not
ethereal or socket able.

ok, great. She's doing good and leveling up with me nicely. So, it's
NM Act 2. Huh, it'll be a while before I get there.

Are you talking about CE here? If so, I hired one of those Act3 fire mercs
for my zon Bozoette and let me tell ya he is a killing machine 🙂

for Khalim's heart in the Kurast Bazaar.
