Question Home Plex server specs

I am setting up a Plex server with the ability to rip the DVDs that I have. What are the important components I need to be worried about? I was thinking about a Intel i5 8XXX but wasnt sure if I needed more and if a video card was important. Is most of the work done with the CPU?

4k blu-rays, but nothing more then that. 95% of what I would be doing in blu-ray or DVD.

If this is direct stream in your house only the i5-8400 will be just fine. As long your playback device can transcode on the fly ie: Nivida Shield, you will be just fine. That's what I have and it works flawlessly. For my on-the-go movie playback I also ripped 1080p copies of each movie as well.

As far as streaming in house goes, I used a core 2 duo laptop as a plex server for years, and it did just fine with videos up to 1080p.

Thanks for the info. I also want to make sure my dvd rips dont take too long. The computer I am using now takes 20-30 minutes for a DVD. I was hoping to cut that down quite a bit.

Intel i7-3770
12Gb Ram (Probably DDR2)
AMD Radeon HD 7800
2Tb , SATA 6Gb/s 64 MB 7200 RPM
PLDS DH-12E3SH 12X HH SATA Trayload DVDRW/BD-ROM
