Hi all,

ive run out of storage on my home computer (20tb), and thus I like to build a home server to put on my media. I'm looking to future proof the system; and thus I looked into the storinator where i could keep expanding for the next little while. However, as i'm using this for my home, is it possible to swap fans and exhaust to be quiet enough (it's placed in my room) and also be low powered enough that it doesn't run up on my electric bill. If possible, I prefer it not to be NAS and instead connected directly onto my existing computer but understand if it's not possible.

I look forward to any suggestions and advice. I greatly appreciate any advice and thank you in advance

Thanks for your reply.

I'm assuming that you're referring to Synology, QNAP, Orico, etc; these are good except they can only hold 2-8 drives maximum. I'm basically looking for a chassis that can store at the minimum 10+ drives.

10+ drives? There isn't going to be anything quiet and low power about that. HDD's are about 25 watts each when running and requires a lot of amps on start up. Sounds like you are honestly better off finding a PC case with either a lot of 3.5 storage or get some hot swap bays and find a case with a lot of 5.25 bays.

Why not go bigger drives and have less?

I'm using 4 and 6tb drives all throughout. I'm fine with a PC chassis as long as it can hold 10 or so disks and relatively well soundproof. Do you have any recommendations?

thanks!
