Yes I am going to do raid 1 I was thinking about raid 5 but I am not sure about that one.

Is it better to use hardware raid configuration on the Motherboard or do the software raid in Windows?

Either solution will work fine for your needs. I would do RAID5 at the hardware level (motherboard) simply because it would be independent of your OS. Software RAID assumes a functional, bootable OS. Guess what happens if you loose your boot OS...

Ohh I didn't thought of that... I guess you are right. That's what I'll do then.
