There is a scalper on ebay selling scalped cards(yeah I know). He says he got them from Newegg and even sent me a photo to prove his orders were legit. He says he will send the receipt with the order for RMA. How would that work if its not under my name and my order history does not have said card in order history? Is he trying to screw me? I really don't know so I am hoping one of you can fill me in on this. I really don't want to buy scalped but this guy alone bought more than 20 Sapphire 7900 XTX's from Newegg. I don't think I can ever win against their bots. My only concern is the dreaded coil whine. I don't want to be hearing a carpentry shop while playing.

the xtx is not worth scalper prices. How much does he wants for it? I mean, you can buy a 4080 for under $1300 and that is overall a better product than the XTX if you compare at the same price level. The XTX is only worth it if you get it for at least $200 under a 4080.....

$1650.... I might as well shell out the extra $400 for a scalped 4090 right?

Why not getting the 4080? Runs cooler, uses less power, in rasterization almost as fast as the xtx (in some games even faster), in raytracing always faster (30% in cyberpunk), DLSS 2.0 is better then FSR, drivers are much better, and even DLSS 3.0 frame generation that especially is sweet in CPU limited games like MSFS. And you can buy one right now without an scalper and its definitely less than $1650....

If you are in the USA there are 4080s sitting on Newegg for under $1300. If you are looking at a 4090 on eBay people are asking 2000 or more for them. That’s quite a bit of money. Plus how would warranty or rma work if you have issues? In your situation you can get the 4080 for less than the 7900xtx you originally wanted and get it from an actual retailer so you don’t have to worry about warranty. It’s up to you but those prices are high either way, the 4080 seems to make sense. Or the 7900xt has been in stock closer to 900 also. Newegg also has the 6950 xt sitting for under 800 if you want a more budget option, if you consider 800 a budget option.

Not saying any of those cards are worth their asking prices. Definitely wouldn’t want to pay 1600 for the 7900xtx or 2000+ for a 1600 dollar 4090.

If you are in the USA and have microcenter near you, watch their website. My local one did have 4090s before Christmas that they wouldn’t sell online, in store only. Their stock at the moment of gpus seems wiped out but I’d imagine they’ll get some as they restock.

I have a Sapphire Toxic 6950 XT I bought in September, great card but I have to upgrade. Yes I know, I am one of those. I went for a 4090 from Gigabyte OC version(not windforce) for a flat $2000. The guy told me he accepts returns within 30 days. I think the MSRP of that one is $1700, so a $300 scalp isn't that much once you're talking about such high prices already. Its not quite the same as something normally selling for $100 and scalping it for $400. It just feels different, at least to me. If anyone is interested in my current card, let me know. Or spread it around lol.

They are a bit higher but on the other hand if you’ve got a gpu already those are worth something. For example I just bought an rtx 3080 for 600, but my 6700xt sold for almost 350 bucks. So that’s one way of looking at it. I had some money from Christmas and so with the sale of the other card that takes a lot of the price out.

Well I don't want to buy from these A-holes but what can we do? Spend days glued to the screen hoping to snatch one? I have owned 6 or 8 GPU's in my lifetime both from AMD and Nvidia and I don't think I have ever heard coil whine. Perhaps if I open the case and put my ear near it I could have. So how bad is this coil whine noise? In every Youtube video I have seen, they open the case and put the mic near it. So is it that bad?
You seem to have moved on from this topic, but I wanted to add to the Coil Whine question. It depends. It is very hard to record the sound of Coil Whine. I had a Vega 56 that was VERY noisy, but I could not get the sound on camera well at all.

It will also depend on your own hearing. I have sensitive hearing to certain frequencies, and the whine drove me crazy. I sold the card to a friend of mine who literally could not hear it. That is how much it can depend. It bothered me enough to sell my GPU in the middle of a GPU shortage a while back, but my friend could not hear it at all, let alone be bothered by it.

Coil whine is Always present, Any time an inductor is used. Most times, the frequency is so high its even beyond the hearing ability of dogs. But every now and then, the frequency used in that inductor combined with the right voltage creates a harmonic that ppl Can hear, and it's annoying.

There's 3 general fixes for coil whine. Change the frequency, as in the clock speeds, or change the cards voltage or track down the offending inductor and hit the side of it with a good dollop of RTV silicon
