horrid image quality

Build a new gaming/work station with an incredible Xeon E5 and and sweet 270x handling everything way better than I hoped. This really should go under two categories. Because I'm having to issues... I'm using an old laptop HDD at 5400rpm (something like that) and when I look at my task manager and I'm using my components for work my CPU and ram usage hardly ever is used more than 50% but my HDD is always at 100% and I don't get good results during these instances... I'm wondering if I should just replace it. I've been eyeballing this SSHD would that help? And another issue (the main one) is my 1080p 32in HDTV is my "monitor" and my desk top looks like poop... I can't read text at 1080. It looks better when I'm under 720. And games look fine though except for the screen tearing witch is starting to bug me... Even under 60 fps at times. I've been looking at a 27in Asus monitor 1080... Would my desk top icons and text look better even if its the same resolution and only a few inches smaller? (I'm using HDMI by the way) excuse any grammatical errors I may have made. I'm using my phone and navigation isn't the easiest.

those old 5400rpm drives are painfully slow.either the sshd or an ssd would be a big improvement.as for image quality,explain cant read text at 1080.is it too small?you can set your text size etc by going to control panel>display.

I guess that maybe the HDTV is 720p native, and can only handle 1080p by downsampling...
What is the specific model for the tv?

I looked it up my TV isn't 1080. All my devices I connect just think it is, I guess.
