HotU item qn

Okay, I got bored of faffing around at mid-levels and have decided to ditch
SoU for HotU. Still using my ftr/mnk/weapon master which I finished the OC
with, but at 17th instead of 9th level. It's a bit silly how all the NPCs
from the OC suddenly don't recognise me anymore, but what the heck.

Anyway, I picked up the robes of the dark moon (?) from the healer in the
Yawning Portal. These are the monk-only robes that give you +2 AC and
perma-haste, which IMO is golden. Unfortunately they look absolutely pants,
and since I pride myself on being a munchkin with a superior fashion sense,
this simply will not do. Is there any way to modify their appearance, short
of hacking the mod with the toolset? If not, are boots of speed available
anywhere?

The only way to modify a generic item in a module is to use the toolset and
replace it by a copy.

One of the enemies you will meet later on is wearing a pair of them, and
with a little luck you may find them among the random generated treasure
too.

Depends on how much alteration you need. HotU introduces a crafting
system that is not fully implemented in the included campaign; however,
one of the features of that crafting system is available: dye kits. You
can buy some cloth dye kits and instantly change the color of your
garments. Unfortunately, that is all you can change. If you actually
need to hem them up or take in the waist a bit, you'll have to play with
the toolset.

My main gripe is that the monk robes now look like you're wearing a
potato sack. Okay, this might be technically more accurate than in the
OC where they were more like a skin-tight outfit, but they're fugly,
mang! Not only that, but how am I supposed to do my kung fu while
wearing a potato sack?

You will do so by spending two rounds meditating upon the nature of the

Actually, the "robes" haven't changed at all.
The skin tight ones from the OC are still there, it's just that HotU
added a _Robe_ overlay overtop it.

The tailoring options in HotU will let you remove the overlay and change
any and all portions of the costume.

Ahhh. I'll give that a go, then. How many ranks in Craft Armour would
be needed for a decent chance of success?

Thanks!

If I recall correctly 0 points to add remove a robe and maybe some gp
cost...

Yep, that did the trick. I no longer must wear a potato sack and be the
laughingstock of the entire Underdark. Thanks!

I dunno, there's something about this suggestion ... it conjures a terrific
image - Hordes of unwashed, ham-fisted, teen-aged to early adult males who
like to pretend they're warriors or mages, sitting cross-legged on the floor
of their bedrooms across the world, nipping in the waists of their robes
with a needle and thread. Yes, yes, it's coming through clearly now.

As the aventurers are nipping their robes in the well room in Yawning's
Portal (where they brought their robes), a beholder floats up.

The adventurers and the beholder look at each other. A minute of dead silent
follows.

Then the adventurers go back to nipping... and the beholder screams, "Ooooh!
My eyes! My eyes!"
