How a dying RW-CD behaves?

I have an HP 8250i, DirectCD, & W2K/98, and a particular RW CD that is about 10 months old. Recently I've been getting messages to the effect of "Previous write operation could not be completed...please stop using this CD..." I physically cleaned the disc (there were only a few fingerprints on it) and reformatted it.

I haven't seen any problems since, but it hasn't been very long. I thought I read somewhere that an average RW CD is good for at least 1000 writes (i.e. file moves, copies, & deletions.) Any truth to this? I don't think this disc has seen that much action, only 300-400 tops. Should I trash it or keep on using it?

If it works fine now, then keep on using it. But I would copy it's contents over to another CD-RW disc just in case something goes wrong. (Happened to me before, al my stuff got lost)

I lost a CDRW once when my comp crashed in the middle of a write. Wouldn't let me format (erase) it, wouldn't let me write to it, nothing.

They SHOULD be good to 1000+ writes. Theoretically. Personally, I have never tested this spec myself. :) It could be a bad disc...

Yes, manufactures claim 1000+ rewrites. But in reality, I doubt it's up there.
