My graphic card shows (recognizes) 4 gb of dedicated but the card only has 1 gb of dedicated. As you can see while playing the game my gpu is used for almost 100% and only uses 0.8 gb. I can play for 3 minutes and then the game crashes. Some games I can't play at all, because the try to write or read from the not existing 3 gb on the card.
I'm unable to send the card back. Is there a way I can change the dedicated memory value?

The card is recognized as a nvidia geforce gtx 960.Drivers are fully updated. Got is from a friend, so no idea where it comes from (he also doesn't know). I feel like it's a knock of.
I didn't do anything to the settings.

The motherboard I'm now using came out one year ago and is indeed flashed to the latest version (done by the store where I got it from). I tried it in a old computer (an window xp computer which now runs window 7). Also here it gets recognized as a 960.

When I said flashed BIOS, I am talking about the PCB Board on the GPU. A flashed PCB Board will work in all computers.

Did your GPU work in another CPU?
