How can I find out if it's lag or the game itself?

Hey all,

I've been experiencing a lot of lag in Battlefront 2 and even Battlefield 1 lately. A lot of stuttering, like when a big explosion happens or a gun goes into high power mode the game will freeze for a second. But my rig shouldn't have these issues - 1080 graphics card, i770 processor, 16 gb ram, etc.

How can I check and see if it's actually the game itself causing lag, my internet, or maybe even my graphic settings?

Thank you!

Edit: I would be very sad if it's my graphic settings. I bought this rig for $1600. 1080 Nvidia graphics card, i770 processor, 16 gb ram. It can't be that. It just can't! It's GOT to be server lag, or my CPU fan is too dusty.

Solution
Lower the graphics quality settings, if it doesn't help it's not the graphics. Use task manager to monitor CPU usage while gaming if you can - a second screen really helps for that. If it doesn't max out when the problem happens then it's not that. RAM shouldn't be an issue with 16 gb. That leaves the lan - hardest to check unless you can move the whole machine to someone elses connection for testing.

Also use a software like MSI Afterburner to check gpu, cpu temps and usage. Check your internet speed with speedtest.com or speakeasy.com. See if your getting the correct speeds you pay for. Do you use a complete uninstaller for the gpu drivers? DDU. Are your drivers, motherboard bios up to date?
