Hi, im moving to a new house in 2 weeks. i was wondering where can i get like an outdoor high gain antenna adapter for my pc so i can get wireless from my "friends" house, like half a mile away, prob less. i want the strongest antenna i can get so i can see other wireless networks too. i dont want to spend too much either. i looked here to build my own but i dont know if it can survive outside. any help would be appreciated. thanks

this is the build it urself one, if anyone has another build it urself that woould be great.

A good solution, provided that you have the permission of your friend, and the consent of the ISP to share the connection would be to pick up a usb wifi adaptor, and a usb extension. You could then mount the usb wifi adaptor in front of a dish.

I did this, and was able to pick up signals from very far away. However I don't think there was enough signal going out for the other
end to pick up my signal, as I couldn't connect, but could see the ids
of the network. I read an article before where people used 2 dishes
on both ends, pointed to each other to cover distances of several
miles.

Hi.

I took a look at the link, and according to the specs, it says
the range is upto 800 ft. Your friends house is half a mile away
(2640 ft, if I can remember correctly the number of ft in a mile.)

If you can get your hands on a dish, you may want to try the
solution I posted above to see how it works. Many people cancel their
dish satellite services and have dishes that are no longer used.

yea thats sounds cool, the Dish thing. maybe ill check up on that and try to do it. yea my friends house is prob closer than that, like 2 blocks, so prob like 1000 ft? and not like 1 block is a mile, more like down the street.
