I have an Acer Nitro 5 an515-55 and it has 10300h, igpu, 1650 mobile and 8x16gb of ram.
I want to use it for general projects, essays, notes and presentations. The battery currently lasts 2.5 hours maximum and I need it to last longer than that.
If there's a way to disable keyboard lights please inform me.

Read the laptop's User Guide/Manual and be sure that you understand the instructions for use on and off battery.

Be sure that you understand the correct way to charge the battery and that the proper charging components are used. (l.e.: think twice about using some generic brand charger/cable that promises faster re-charges.

Register the laptop to ensure that you have warranty coverage. May or may not really help much if there is some problem. Lots of fine print in most waranties. Net result being that you pay, they don't pay.

Keyboard lights, if they can be disabled then how to do so should be in the manual.

College: "I want to use it for general projects, essays, notes and presentations."

With any computer, especially laptops, you are always at risk for data loss.

Immediately set up a backup plan that retains copies of anything important (a project) that you cannot afford to lose if the laptop fails. At least 2 x copies to locations away from the laptop. Be sure to verify that the copies are both recoverable and readable. Be wary of USB drives - especially inexpensive, large capacity drives.

The college may provide some central backup storage. Or you can email copies of presentations etc. to yourself and retrieve the copies via email storage somewhere. Some systems may automatically delete emails after a certain amount of time. Not a long term solution per se.

Or email to trusted friends and family. Or a second personal, non-college email account of your own.

Online storage may be an option.

In any case, keep the bigger picture in mind as well. Battery charging and charging times are important.

However, much more can go wrong. Be prepared for that.

Just my thoughts on the matter.
