How can I setup a router to a modem/router combo?

Hi I have a Actiontec C1000a modem/router from CenturyLink and I just bought a TP-LINK Archer C5 AC1200 router. I want to know how to use this router instead of my built in router function that my C1000a has. Thank you for your time.

You cant because you need the Tplinks router to hook up the actiontec.
All you can do is turn off the wireless in the TPLink.

I'm confused. I have the TP-LINK router. It is not hooked up yet. I want to know how I can use this as my router and disable the router function in my Actiontec C1000a.

You need to run your actiontec device in bridge mode. The largest issue is you need to run your tplink in pppoe on the wan port and you need to get the userid/password used in your actiontec. How exactly you do that can vary from ISP so you likely will have to call them and hope you get a knowledgeable tech.

Sorry about that, I got the routers mixed up. Just reverse them. Turn off wireless in the actiontec.

He can't reverse the routers. The C1000a is a combined modem-router which HAS TO BE connected to the DSL line. The other one has no modem. He needs to bridge the C1000a in order to avoid double NAT.

I did not say swap routers, I meant swap actiontec for tplink (words) in my recommendation. ie- just turn off the wireless in the actiontec. Connecting the tplink to the actiontec will work fine and doesnt even need to be in bridge mode. he needs to make sure the tplink is on a different subnet.

In a residential situation, 2 routers are rarely the solution.
