Question How can I use the University Ethernet without getting caught

I don't know if its forbidden or not for us because they didn't include this in their agreement, but the uni wifi is so slow even when I am trying to do things that they normally grant permission to. So I went into our public PC lab and unplugged one of the Lab PC's ethernet than plugged it in my laptop. It worked perfectly and it doesn't have any internet restrictions and it is fast. I don't know if it would cause me any trouble and if it will how can I prevent from someone to see me on the LAN? I don't know VPN would work or not.
