Hi,

So i upgrade my old pc and now i have a GTX 970 GPU, and a i7 9790k CPU with a z97-pro gamer MOBO.

But i keept my old 2x 4gb DDR3 1333 Mhz kingston RAMs.

So now im wondering... how can that old memory afect my usage of this new pc, specialy on gaming.

I would apriciate some answer because i have no idea...

Thanks!!

Latency has a lot to do with it too. Once you get to 1600Mhz Cas 9 the cost-benefit of increasing speeds decreases very quickly.

If your 1333Mhz ram is at Cas 9 or less I wouldn't touch it. If it was Cas 11 it might be worth replacing.

The real benefit of high clockspeed ram like 2400MHz is for serious overclockers using baseclock straps and other such things. Having ram that can function at a wide range of frequencies and latencies allows extreme overclockers more wiggle-room to get a maximum CPU clock and still fine-tune the memory.

Im sorry, but i dont know what Cas 9 or 11 is.... How can i see what cass my ram is?

You can use CPU-Z to determine your latency. The "memory" tab will give you several numbers. The one labeled CAS# Latency (CL) is what I was referring to. To get a more in-depth understanding of latencies you can read this: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/understanding-ram-timings/26/2

In general, 9-9-9-24 is the standard latency for DDR3@1600. Lower is a little better, but not really noticeable in games. FWIW I run 1600MHZ@8-8-8-21 (1T) and I get almost no FPS difference from 9-9-9-24.

I checked with CPU-Z and my lattency is 9-9-9-24, so it should be ok, but today i was playing Dying Light whit chrome open and downloading some other game, when suddenly my game screen started to froze really bad, i open the task manager and the memory in use was like 97%. Can that be the cause for that frozen screen or the lost of fps in game?

Also, my disk usage was really high. Even when i stoped playing and my memory usage went down, my disk usage stayed betwen 90 and 98%. May this be a problem too ?
