i did research and found that some will need an external adapter or pcie slot upgrade for it to work possibly. Just want another answer before i start buying other parts.

The only "adapter" you might need is a plate to mount it to the case.

The drive has standard SATA connections for power and data.
Power cable from the PSU, SATA data cable between the drive and one of the SATA ports on the motherboard. Just like a spinning HDD.

No external or PCIe thing needed.

i have it all plugged up and it still doesn't register. after plugging it in, i unplugged my disk drive and plugged said cords into the ssd, knowing they work. Still nothing, is it a possibility that i need to update my BIOS for it to install the drivers correctly?

What other drives are in this system?

Link to the specific B85 motherboard?

There should be no BIOS changes needed. This should connect exactly as a HDD.
