I'm trying to play an old game (Jedi knight dark forces 2) but it requires 3d acceleration. It just shows black screen on my computer. I am running a hd graphics 3000 and direct x12 (i think). The game is downloaded on steam. just opens black screen.

running games on hardware made long after they were made always has its potential problems.

at least it is a Direct X game, it just doesn't like newer versions of DirectX - https://www.play-old-pc-games.com/2015/11/19/wars-knight-forces/

everything keeps wrapping around to that voodoo program Example

just a question. i'm on windows 10 pro. When I rename the files to "jk.exe" for example for some reason it was saying it was jk.exe.exe as if it was not necessary to add .exe at the end, is this true for windows 10 pro? or do I still rename it .exe.

i don't think its the laptop. its a "feature" of the game on newer hardware.
it wants DirectX 5 and I question how well your CPU is at running that. HD 3000 is Directx 10
Game is from 1997. You trying to play it 24 years later. Its not often I tell people their PC is too new. Shame there are no emulators.

there is a remastered mod I see mentioned but I am not sure how far along that is. videos are this year.
