Hello.
I attempted updating my graphics drivers but they failed due to the OS not being up to date.

The automatic Windows updater keeps running into issues, and is unable to update.

I am currently running the 15063.413 build of Windows 10 1703.
I've found that the most recent build of Windows is 15063.540.

How should I download and install this update?

I've found 4 files on the Windows Update Catalog by searching "KB4034674"
Should I download all 4?

Yeah, I can't replicate it.
I went through all the DISM stuff again and rebooted. No message.

Yup, fails with all of em'.
I'll just copy-paste all of it, in order:

2017-06 Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4022405) - Error 0x800706be

2017-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4034674) - Error 0x800706ba

2017-08 Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4034662) - Error 0x800706ba

Advanced Micro Devices - MEDIA - 11/30/2016 12:00:00 AM - 10.0.1.1 - Error 0x800706be

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. driver update for Radeon RX 560 Series - Error 0x800706be

Hopefully that helps a bit.

Did you re try sfc after diwm? What dism does is fixes the image files, that are used for doing a reset, and which are the files SFC uses to correct corruption. SO if DISM ran with no errors, run SFC /scannow again and it should work this time.

have you tried running windows update in clean boot? https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows - it might be one of your other programs stopping it

check in device manager and see if any warnings or unknown devices

I'm trying to do the clean boot at the moment. It's stuck on the "Getting Windows Ready. Don't turn off your comouter" screen.
How long does it usually take? It's been like this for about 5-10 minutes.

Yeah honestly. We did most of what Windows KBs and forums suggests. Here is another one but I believe we already did this in our troubleshooting.

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/windows-10-will-not-accept-my-updates-error/1c620e5d-9746-4f28-9339-cca1ce98733d

Honestly, we are getting to a point where it might be better if you just wipe and reloaded windows.

We can keep trying to troubleshoot but it's just an idea. A lot of things that would normally fix these errors are not working. I suspect the issue is a deeper root corruption at this point. Not just Windows Updates.

Aye, it might be better just to reset.
Oh, and I got to to display that message under the updater again, somehow.
It said "We need to start a separate installation to complete this update. Select install to start it. If you don't see the install window, minimize this windows and check the taskbar"

Ok, so I followed the steps in that link until I got stuck.
It won't allow me to rename the files, and when I try to start cryptSvc, it gives me error 1067. It says the process was terminated unexpectedly.

I just did the DISM scanhealth, restorehealth, then SFC. It gives me the same message as always. Just says to loot at the CBS log.

Clean boot doesn't fix the update issue either.

Where would I see warnings in device manager?

I think everything looks fine in there.

It might not let you rename the files because it is currently being used. Try to turn off windows update services or boot into safe mode and try it.

Yeah, safe mode worked, I think.
cryptSvc still doesn't start up in safe mode, or even the hidden Admin account.

Yeah, I still can't complete the rest in normal boot.
the cryptSvc isn't being enabled. I get the error 1067, just as before.

Aye, I've been debating it for a bit.
I am unable to do that at the moment, though. The HDD that I'm currently using has a fair about of sentimental data on it that I can't backup right now.

Do you know if it'd be possible to get a new drive and make a clean install on that, while keeping all the data on all of my current drives?

Sure, you can install Windows to a new drive, but you'll need to reinstall all of your apps. The data (docs, pix, videos, etc) would be intact on the original drive and you could transfer/save afterward. It is a pain, but can certainly be done.

Alright.
That's probably what I'll end up having to do, then.

How should I install Windows onto a new drive? Am I able to put it onto a flash drive and boot from that, then go through all the normal setup?
Should I disconnect all my drives while I do this just to make sure they don't get hoopa-jooped?

Remove the original HDD(s) (disconnect power and data at least) for any storage devices that you want to ensure the data remains intact.

Install new SSD/HDD. Install as you mentioned. Normal process. Easy as pie. Re-install all apps, etc.

After the system is fully up and running, reconnected the original drive(s) and begin transferring files as desired.

Alright, thanks!

Know of any guides for how to put Windows on a flash drive?
