Well I have ordered my parts for my new system and wish to OC for my first time but want to ask the pro's out there how to do this and what they recomend. Here is my system specs and I appriciate any advice and directions I can get:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Windsor 2000MHz HT 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Dual Core Processor

MSI K9N SLI Platinum Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard

eVGA 256-P2-N567 Geforce 7900GT KO Superclocked 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

2/ Kingston HyperX 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Unbuffered System Memory Model KHX6400D2/1G

Antec LifeStyle SONATA II Piano Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 450Watt SmartPower 2.0 ATX 12V

2/ 80mm Cooling Fans

Sony Dvd/rw

WD 320gb Sata

Win XP Pro

I have never OC'd before like I said but I want to try it out and see what kind of results I can get. The x2 3800 runs at 2.0, I want to get the max speed out of it but keeping it cool and not wearing out the cpu. I am trying to just use air cooling, and think I do need a better stock fan/heatsink for my am2 socket. I have looked on new egg and seen a few but any suggestions would be nice.

I do not have the system yet, but will at the end of the week. If someone has a similar setup please help me out. Thanks for reading gents, and I look forward to being the nOOb of the hour when it comes to OC'ing.

get one of these....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835185125

your 3800+ should hit 2.8 as long as your board can supply the voltages needed to get it that high. about 1.6 should do it.

drop the CPU multiplier as low as it will go and raise the HTT as high as it will to find your motherboards HTT limit. then try to get your CPU up there. take it slow and gradually increase the voltages.

read the stickies on overclocking and dont be afraid to try things. find out where the CMOS jumper is.

oh. lock the PCI express bus and all that jazz....

put 3 volts to the cpu
4 volts to the ram
raise the fsb to 300
drop HTT to 1x

and wait to smell the overclock kick in =X
