Question How do I stop gnome-software from starting up?

I am using Oracle 9 Linux. I can't edit the file in the autostart folder, I can't disable it or anything. Is there a way to disable it so it won't hog too much memory?
Maybe the answer can be compatible with something like a Fedora/Redhat solution because those distros are very similar.

The file path is this: /etc/xdg/autostart/
The name of the file is gnome-software-service.desktop

I've looked on other forums. I've tried nano, I've tried to to super user and some solutions are just too dangerous. I use to use Mint and going into super user is easy, but it's not like that with distros like Oracle. I've tried masking the file and disabling it but it just won't do anything.

I'd appreciate any help. Oracle forums won't reply to me. I really need help. I need clear instructions. I need someone who understands Oracle/Redhat/Fedora.

gnome is the desktop GUI software. without it, you only get a command line. this is likely why you can't disable it. you can probably uninstall it, but then why not just install a desktop-less distro?

Would it be safe to uninstall? I don't mind doing a command line. I'm use to it. I want to keep my Gnome desktop though. I can't handle anything without a GUI but I don't mind doing terminal command lines every now and then. I can just update packages from terminal, or go to the snap store or flatpak store.

I had a look around on reddit and someone said to tick the metered option for the Internet. I might give that a go as well. Sometimes weird solutions are cool but I'd still like to know if it's safe to uninstall gnome software but keep Gnome desktop. I can't switch because Oracle doesn't have other options. I've learnt from the past it's never good to switch Desktops unless you restart install or your distro has other options. Sorry for blabbering on though.

sorry i wasn't totally clear there. gnome software is the desktop. without it you have no GUI at all. it would boot to a black screen and a command line and that's all you'd have!! so you can't disable gnome if you want the desktop. there are other desktop options you can switch to, but in the end anyone would have to run it's software on boot-up for you to have a desktop in any way.

if you liked mint why not just use that? why the dedication to oracle if you don't like how it works?

Mint has issues. It has that x session file that gets huge and it's worse than the gnome-session file. Mint is overrated. It has good things about it but I used it for a while and I was disappointed so I went for something like Oracle. I thought it was a big company and it's like Fedora/Redhat I may as well go for it. I might go for Fedora eventually and install it with Budgie or something. I don't like being dedicated. I hate distro hopping! I want to stay where I am and try to solve problems rather than distro hopping!

I might just "meter" my Internet connection and then see what happens from there.
