How Do You Cap Your GPU FPS?

I'm getting way too many FPS in the games I play. I have a 144hz monitor and Gsync enabled, and everything is fine, but would like to know how to get my GPU to stop rendering frames above 144 for all games. It's just needlessly stressing out the GPU. Does anyone know how to do this?

This video should show you how to limit fps. When installing MSI Afterburner (at the end) it should have given you two check boxes, those were for Rivatuner. If you open the extra programs tab (the arrow, shows extra processes like Task Manager and usage) you should see a computer monitor icon, right click and then hide/show. The video will take you from there.

Vsync will cap me to 60 or 30 depending on the game. I love getting 144 FPS and don't want to lose out on that. It's when I'm getting like 170-200 that I feel it should just be capped to 144. Is there any way to do that without capping myself to 30 or 60?

If you have MSI Afterburner, you can open Rivatuner and configure the maximum amount of frames per second you are getting (make sure you've picked the Global option on the left side)

Rivatuner will allow you to change the limit on your fps, so if you wanted 37, it would make the max 37.

This sounds more ideal. I have MSI Afterburner already for a custom fan cure to keep my GPU cool, but never used Rivatuner (don't even know if I have it installed), Any tips or links to a guide to do this?

V-sync will lock the framerate to ensure a consistent framerate. for example, if FPS is above 60fps, then it will lock the framerate to 60. anything less, it will lock it to 30. You can force V-sync in Nvidia control panel, if the game doesn't support it (Most games do)

Thank you very much. I have successfully capped it to 144. Do you know if this does anything negative with Gsync?

I double checked twice now turning it on and off (the 144 cap) and I seem to be getting a bit of a stutter when it's on. Not sure how to go about fixing that. Thought Gsync would fix that as it was fine and is fine when I remove the cap.
